    Viewsonic VG150, invisible crack

Found what looked like a really clean Viewsonic VG150 in the dispose pile at work, minus the external power supply. No notes on it. Inspected it carefully under reasonably bright fluorescent light and didn't see anything wrong with it. Sure it is an old display, but who knows, maybe it was just thrown out because it was replaced with something bigger?

Spent a day trying to find an adapter that would fit, failed, and so opened it up and soldered a wire onto the +12V DC and put the ground wire under a screw, then ran it from a PC power supply. It started right up, and revealed an inch wide swath of dead pixels near the top, alongside a fine dark line that looked like a glass crack. However, that crack was only visible with the backlight on.

Turned it off, inspected it again (still inside) and could not see anything wrong with the screen glass, even knowing now where the problem was. Ran my fingernail over the screen and couldn't feel a discontinuity. Finally took it outside in the bright sun for inspection. Still couldn't see a crack in the glass under that illumination, but there was a swirling effect over the blown pixels that wasn't present anywhere else on the screen.

This is a new one for me. Usually a cracked screen is pretty obvious but not this time. Here it looks like the LCD layer split while the glass stayed mostly (entirely?) intact. I didn't care enough to tear it down further to find out for sure, and it went out to the ewaste.

Looking for help with a Viewsonic VP230mb where the backlight comes on only momentarily
    by lostone
Hello, I came here after finding some similar questions asked on other monitors and hope someone here can help me get an ancient Viewsonic VP230mp (23" 4:3 LCD) back to working condition.

First a little background, I have a background in computer and electrical engineering, and I'm smart enough to know I know nothing about LCD displays and how they work. For this topic I'm as green as they come.
When the display is turned on the viewsonic logo displays in the uppper left for 2 seconds then the screen goes black, the power LED is green (on) and when a computer is connected...

Panasonic Plasma 2008 TH-42PV/PX series - Removing the coating from the Front Glass
    by tongshadow
I got this set for very cheap, it works perfectly but the catch is that the protective coating was damaged. About 45% of the screen had a green tint, you can see exactly where the layer changed colors to a blueish tone (that actually makes everything green).

"Ok, that's probably just the anti-glare layer" - I thought. So using a microfiber cloth and automotive metal polish I was easily able to turn it into a nice mirror.

Unfortunately, the damage was beyond this layer and everything still had a horrible green tint. I initially...

    Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Replaced the glass IC on a Series X, Pin 13 in now OL.
    by SarcasticOP
    Hello!

I am replacing the booster IC (glass IC on the other side of the HDMI port) and I had to use a bypass chip I from Sourcely. I got everything set up and resolved the issue I was having from that (different line was OL) but now I am contending with this one. Is there something I can do to restore the signal?

Attached is a photo with the pad in question that is supposed to supply the signal to pin 13 on the HDMI port. Tweezers where I am pointing to.
