Just a quick update. After reconnecting the button board the LED started lighting up again.
So I slapped it back together and sure enough it seems to be working fine.
No idea what happened here but I'll take credit for it and drink a beer
Thanks for the help (mostly indirectly by helping other people). In the end Ive gained a much better understanding of SMPS design from this experience. Great site, Im sure I'll be back.Comment

I'm facing the same problem with my Samsung 226BM.
The display stopped working, the power led would not turn on.
I opened the monitor, and surely enough, the 6 big caps were blown (5x 820µf, 1x 330uF).
I replaced them with new panasonic caps but that doesn't seen to have fixed the problem...
I didn't replace the small caps but they are fine (I checked them with an ESR meter).
Here are the measurement I took.
PSU board.
CN2- B-DIM: 4.99v
- GND: 0.00v
- GND: 0.00v
- GND: 0.00v
- 13.5V: 15.69v
- 13.5V: 15.69v
- 13.5V: 15.69v
- A-DIM: 4.67v
- ON/OFF: 0.00v
Logic board.
IC602.- 0.00v
- 1.80v
- 3.75v
IC204- 5.19v
- 0.00v
- 5.19v

Take a good look at the solder joints on the bottom of both boards.
My 226BW died in december with no blue power LED at all and I just got around to taking it apart today to figure out which caps I needed to replace--turned out that all the caps looked fine. No bulging and no leaking. However, some of the solder joints looked like my first attempts at soldering as a 12-year-old and were definitely no longer making any sort of connection to the board.
I just fixed up the 4-5 bad solder jobs and everything is working fine again.
Sounds like you definitely had bad caps but maybe you also had some bad solder joints somewhere else you weren't looking that need a touch-up like mine?Comment

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Hi all!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

Hi, have this Samsung QE 75 Q 7 FGMTZG TV with no function. First analysis shows the power supply board is dead and fuse blown. Power Supply has the number BN94-11439A. I did short circuit test transistor and diodes and those do not appear to have shorts. I must admit I did not look at every single data sheet.
In the TV was some black dust residue, so probably one of the electrolytic caps blew, but they do not show short either.
Does anyone have schematics for that board ?
Any good tip, what could be the issue ?

Picked up another TV. Samsung UN43NU6950FXZA. No power and no standBy led on. Removed back cover and:
Main fuse = OK
Back light LED = OK. Power them with aux power source
LED output = OK 156V
I do get 12 V DC out of the power supply going to the digital section but no 5V or 3.3V. PS_on voltage is only 1.8V. I have looked everywhere on the PCB , I could not find i reference for 5V output.
Also removed connections to panel, speakers and remote but no luck. One strange thing is that even with the LED power supply working, backlight LED do not turn on...07-20-2025, 08:06 PM
