Dell 2005FPW no display, solid power lights

Hi, I have a Dell 2005FPW Monitor that I recently put 12 new caps into the power board, but it is still not working.

What happens, is I press the power button, and the backlight comes on for about a half second, then goes away. Power lights all still work and can even choose inputs from the button panel, but still no picture or display.. the same exact problem I had before I replaced all the caps. If you guys have any insight on what I should do, that would be great. Thanks..

What brand and series caps did you use?

They were provided in a kit from a website (idk if I'm allowed to say so I removed it)

They apparently use only the "good" caps.

Here's a quote directly from their site..

"We only use high quality capacitors manufactured by Panasonic, Nichicon and Rubycon in our kits. We do not use CapXon capacitors."

The kit provided..

2 - 10V 1000uf
3 - 25V 820uf
1 - 10V 680uf
2 - 25V 470uf
1 - 50V 100uf
3 - 25V 47uf

Sounds like a 'Two seconds to black' problem. To confirm, with the monitor hooked to a working computer can you see a display (desktop) when you shine a flashlight on the screen?

This is more for information, And maybe something to put on the back burner for a while
I have not seen a dell 2005 series monitor yet, The ones I have had are the 2001 series that have had the 2sec. to black problem .These have all been caused by bad ccfls.
Even without a video signal present, I have noticed a Dell self check feature box floating around the screen, with a green power LED lit up, and going to 2 sec to black.
This monitors ccfls most likely uses a slightly different style of connector for the ccfls but with a little extra work a known good ccfl can be substituted to help diagnose the 2 sec to black problem.
I know as the old saying goes, were not comparing apples to apples, but it's something to keep in mind.

Okay, I shined a flashlight on the display and still couldn't see anything. Is there a specific way to do this?

The screen literally flashes for half a second on power up.. it's not 2 seconds. It might even be quicker than a half second.

If it is a dead ccfl, how can I go about fixing it from there? I'm really hoping it's just a loose wire or something, or maybe a cap on the logic board?


EDIT: Upon further inspection, I got a white box to pop up in windows, and was able to see that with a flashlight... :/ At least we're making some progress now.

One little tidbit I picked up on recently. 'Two Seconds to Black' is a general term. The actual delay between detection of a fault and shutting down the inverter is controlled by a cap near the inverter controller. Some designers allow more time, some allow less. In case of an open CCFL (broken tube or broken wire), some inverter controllers will shut instantly.
