    Viewsonic va902 LCD recap

Recapped power board for Viewsonic VA902(aka HannStar JG171A) vs10715

Symptoms: The display didn't power on. When connected the green power light turns on for second and then dims as the safety circuit kicks in. Then after some time when power is disconnected it is possible to repeat. Disassembled, in some places board was brown from heat, the build quality is low.
I was able to turn it on if the LCD panel was disconnected, then powering on and allowing it to warm up and then connect LCD. It works until display is turned on. Another way was to heat a little with gun 2 mofsets in power board and then it turned on without problems, as starting power peak was minimized. Backlight worked ok. So the caps could be the cause, although seemed ok by look.

    Board: Date: 2005.05.18 2202130701P Ver:2.01 w/o audio

Fix: Replace C823,C825 and just in case - C906,C922 . It didn't make a big difference on my pacient. So I replaced the C824 (10V 1000uF) too, and it fixed the problem. C824 is not a typical problem for these as didn't find it mentioned on net.

I replaced C824 with 16V 1500uF as other caps were 16V and this seems the weak spot when board is old.

    C823,C825,C906,C922 = 16V 470uF
    C824 = 10v 1000uF

      Re: Viewsonic va902 LCD recap

Fixed another one. Changed all Elite caps with good ones.

      Some steps for easy disassembling:
      1. Unfold the monitor horizontally. Press the caps(chromed cylinders) from sides and pull out.

      2. Unscrew the hidden screws.

      3. Undo the screws at back.

      4. Unclip the protecting cover. Better heat it with heat gun before for easy removal as it is too crisp.

      5. Neverless some of clips can break as it seems it's mean to be closed once and for all. This can be fixed by gluing around the edge of failed clips.

      see the white crack

      6. The hardest part top open is the stand. There are clips on sides.

      7. Do the magic...
      8. After that - assembly is the reverse of disassembly

This could be "2 seconds to black". See posts #13 and 14 for more details at

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Looking for help with a Viewsonic VP230mb where the backlight comes on only momentarily
            by lostone
Hello, I came here after finding some similar questions asked on other monitors and hope someone here can help me get an ancient Viewsonic VP230mp (23" 4:3 LCD) back to working condition.

First a little background, I have a background in computer and electrical engineering, and I'm smart enough to know I know nothing about LCD displays and how they work. For this topic I'm as green as they come.
When the display is turned on the viewsonic logo displays in the uppper left for 2 seconds then the screen goes black, the power LED is green (on) and when a computer is connected...
