    Viewsonic VP201

    Hi everyone,

First time posting after spending the last few days reading.

I have what seems to be a reviveable Vp201s. The syptoms are a black display with a steady green power LED that turns amber when signal is removed and back to green with a valid signal.

After reading the few existing threads on the VP201 monitors, I have opened the monitor up, verified that the power supply is outputting 18.25 Volts and on the inverter board confirmed that one of the surface mount fuses passes the full 18.25 Volts and the other fuse only 3.5 Volts. To me this would indicate that the fuse needs replacing.

My real question being... in the experience of those with much more experience than I, is there anything else I should do while I have it apart. I have read many reports of questionable caps and checking the ESR. My display does not seem to have any of the listed marginal caps. The power supply caps are all Nichicon, and the inverter board caps are all Rubycon. They all look like new with no bulging or leaking. I don't have access to an LCR/ESR meter, and buying a $100+ meter to check $5 worth of caps seems a little rediculous. Is there any reason not to just replace the fuse and call it a day??

The only possible drawback is that IF something is shorted the replacement fuse will blow. It seems that the vast majority of cases the fuse is all that's wrong.

Definitely get a spare or three "just in case".

Thanks for the replies. I did a little calling around and cant seem to find any pico's locally, so I think I am going to do a little test using the glass frankenfuse method. I have a 2a mini glass fuse I can solder on leads and use that to bridge the blown surface mount fuse. If that works I will go ahead and order the correct pico for a more permanent repair. Either way I'll let you know how it goes.

A trick I sometimes use is to jumper the fuse position with a light bulb, for example an 1157 (automobile tail / brake light). If it glows dimly and the inverter works, you're good to go with a real fuse. If it lights up like a floodlight you know there is a short to run down.

A funny fuse story – Lumix LX100 II
            by corrize
Hello, I disassembled this dead camera, and found this WTF… Two fuses soldered one above the other !
I was pretty sure nobody touched it before, but that can't be from factory. There is flux, and capacitor is probably missing.
            The other weird thing : the fuses are « G » fuse : (0.75A – 8V), seems very low. The original fuse should be « O » : (32V 2,5A).
There is « O » mark beside. All fuses have the same mark letter on main board. So, I can deduce it's a « O » fuse.
And this correspond to the issus I saw : when I plug the battery, I measure the voltage dropping...

            Hi all,
this unit comes from a samsumg LCD TV LE32C530F1W which stopped working after making a strong noise like something was exploded inside of it.
I opened it and found that fuse FP801S was blown, capacitor CP814 was completely disintegrated and MOSFET QP801S was shorted.
I replaced all of them and instead of the fuse I connected a 100 Watt bulb. Then, without connecting it to other TV boards, I switched it on, but the bulb begun to blink.
I thought that maybe the bulb was somehow interfering with the normal operation of the power supply, so I replaced it with a fuse,...

Samsung UE46ES8000 Blown fuse but no other signs of short
            by jesterace
Hi I wonder if anyone might be able to steer me in the right direction. I have this Samsung UE46ES8000 TV and it went bang during use. The main fuse on the PSU board is open. I've checked every diode/mosfet/transistor I can see and nothing appears to be short to cause the fuse to go. The DC output of the bridge rectifier is not short either. I've seen online that some of these models are known for having their PFC mosfet or other mosfets shorting and blowing the fuse but i'm not seeing that here. If anyone aware of these models having any issues to cause this? I'm reluctant to just replace the...

Help replacing fuse on my Mimaki CJV300-160 vinyl printer
            by jshhh
            Hi guys,

I'm inexperienced with electronics repairs, I've done a little bit of soldering caps and whatnot, but i have a blown fuse on this mimaki printer I got which I have bought a replacement for.

How do I remove this type of fuse (see picture)...it kinda looks like it would pull out of that bracket but it didn't come at first pull and I didn't want to brute force it incase it's soldered on there like most of the rest of the components.

Anybody know how to remove this type of fuse?

(The fuse is toward the bottom of the image labeled F2)...
