Compaq FP7317 no power - caps?

    Compaq FP7317 no power - caps?

    This morning my monitor would not power on - have been noticing some "ripple" in the screen quality recently. Opened up the back and see at least 4 caps bulging or burst. I'm assuming that will cause the no power situation if they are located by the transformer?

    The 4 suspect caps are all Elite 1000uf 16v with ES(M)105C and (C)0408 listed on the other side. What is a good replacement number from Digikey that I can order?

    I did a cap replacement on a Sceptre monitor successfully, so I know I can do the work if this is the problem...

    If you have 4 bad caps, then it would be a reasonable assumption that you could have more bad caps even if the others show no visible sign of distress.

    So replace them all other than the big filter cap. If you follow PlainBill's instructions here, you can get Panasonic FM caps

      Different vendors use different designs, but the 1000uF 16V could be providing the 5V power which is required by the logic card to power on the monitor.

      If you see 25V caps on the board, they are likley providing power to the inverter section of the board (likely 12V or 19V depending on the design).

          Let us know if the new caps work or not. If you are in the USA, you should get the caps in the next 24 to 48 hours.

          BTW, I heard somewhere that Digikey does around 1 Billion in revenue/year. Amazing, that they can sell 6 caps to individuals for a company that size.

            There are a couple of factors on this. Digikey is located in Thief River Falls, MN, population 8410. And it's not a suburb, it's the 'big city' of the area.

            I've been doing business with them for over 30 years, and their shipping charges have dropped significantly recently. I suspect this is due to a highly automated order filling system.
