Interesting,....

I am working on a Klipsh Powerd spkr in which I found:
an N-ch Mosfet with a hole blown through it
and a high temp (I think) resistor, also blown apart
the magic smoke also has rendered a large cap (electrolytic)
virtually unreadable, tho it appears by the circuit
to be at least 300V in value@680** the rest of value
is obscured so,..2 inquiries

1. as I must replace the blown Mosfet,..should I replace
both?

2. the large cap is a Jamicon code on cap is: 054K0(M)
can the cap value be identified with this info?

The code "054K0(M)" I think is the date of manufacture as well as tolerance (M) which is 20%

If this is powered from mains then for that capacitor 300 volts makes sense, also 680 will be in uF (microfarads) - It won't be anything else.

You shouldn't normally have to replace the primary capacitor though, but in this case it may have been damaged - only way to know is to pull it out and test it...


Photos would be great too, so we can see what's going on, like where exactly your blown MOSFET is etc...
