    Yamaha A-520 HiFi amplifier

    Hi All,

I have a Yamaha A-520 that has no sound output.

I notice after power up the protection protection relay does not click in.

I'd appreciate any pointers on where to start.

    Many thanks.

first put a resistor and led across the relay coil to see if it's being powered but bad.

Check the DC voltage on TPR0 or on the output coil L105 and L106. You likely have a bad output causing the protection circuit to activate to protect the speakers

Probably dc on the output = blown transistor(s).

            Re: Yamaha A-520 HiFi amplifier

            Hi,

I got back to the amp this morning and have a few developments to report:

I have a series 120W tungstan lamp in series with the mains (240V) supply.

On power up the amp draws lots of current to the point that R207 smokes (180Ω 1/4W)

After a rapid disconection I desoldered the 4 main output transistors to test them (TR121,122,123,124) and all tested OK. (C3182x2 & A1265 x2)

I also tested the two smaller transistors mounted between these pairs on the heatsink. (TR115/116 ) Unfortunatly I managed to break a leg off of one of these and now need to source a replacement 2SC2240. I'd appreciate suggestions for a substitute..

              Hello guys
Because the unit is old (but only occasionally used) the loudness button causes some noise due to bad contact,
sprays did not work, so i decided to solder the pins that it connects on the pcb at the on (loudness on) position
i did that and it worked fine, i know from the bottom of my heart that the switch connects 2 pins and also d/c other 2 pins
on every position it have (6 pin switch), so i was curious what would happen if i clicked the switch off while the pins are soldered at on (so basiclly on and off at the same time), when i did so the sound is gone, nothing...

              Yamaha RX V675 sound issues
              by jjne
I have an old Yamaha RX V675 receiver which is starting to develop issues with the sound, although it doesn't quite match up with what folk normally report with these.

From cold, the sound cuts in and out. When this happens the amp is losing sync with the optical input (speaker graphic disappears from the front panel). But this is not resolved by putting the unit into pure direct mode. After a couple of minutes this resolves, although there are occasional clicks from the speakers after that.

At first I thought it was either a speaker relay or the DSP, but I don't think...

              9V relay temperature 40C
              by jm1234
Hi, I'm seeing one 9V relay having temperature 40C on its 9V (primary) side. Does that seem right? I switched 2 relays on that board and the temperature was the same (on the same position), so I'm sure it's not a faulty relay. I measured voltage on that relay and it was 9.5V DC, so that looks good. I don't see any other relay on that board having that kind of temperature and they have 9V on them too.
I thought maybe the transistor that is switching this relay keeps switching on/off, so I also checked for AC and there was almost none: 0.3V using mV range. No steady frequency was shown, but...

Biomass Boiler not driving cleaner motor relay. ENERTRES BIOMASA BI-650
              by edugimeno
              Hi everyone!
I have this board that suddenly stopped supplying power to an output that drives an interchanger cleaner motor.
I checked while the board was in place with all wires attached and there's no AC voltage on the corresponding plug X5
This X5 is driven by fuse F8 (tested OK) which comes from the second orange relay
To make sure there are no charcoaled contacts inside the relay, I got a 24VDC power supply and got it ready to manually power up the coil side of these relays.
I respected the polarity, positive to cathode of protecting diode
              So provided all...
