Lightning VS Home audio sub :owned:

My father has a very nice home sub that was hit by lightning about 8 years ago. It has been a tv stand since then. I live 500 miles away so i can't yet look at the board. Most conversations with my father about audio equipment end in "I wish I could get my sub to fire up". Anyways... I was wondering what to look for when I get the pictures. I'll post them here also but I'm not sure when.

    Thanks, Jacob

I'd look for a big burn mark.. that's likely to be the most obvious symptom.

He had opened it after it happened and said he saw nothing obvious. He also said today if he remember correctly it only has one board, Jacob

        Brand & model of sub?

No way to be sure until you get it opened and start checking it out.

It could be nothing more than a blown fuse and a MOV that did its job...

Or, it may best be suited for the TV stand role...

I just had him look at it.. he cant find a Model number... So maybe its on the bottom.. The tv was to heavy for him to lif off by himself. My sister will be there tomorrow I'll have her move the tv. but he did say it had a pf on it and from what I can find onile it may be a "Definitive Tech PF15TL" They seem to be the model of the time. I was thinking fuse also. Maybe I'll have more info later on this evening. Thanks for you help. Jacob

Could be as simple as a fuse or as complicated as several components being fried.
Also look on the bottom side of the board for foil traces that have been burnt or melted off. You can run fine wires in place of those burnt traces.
At any rate, the actual speaker should be good.

Awesome thank you. I have not yet been able to get pictures. My father works a lot and is tired when he gets home. Same job for 32 years!. Manual labor running a molder and cutting knives for home base board and crown moldings. I will see if i can round them up Sunday. Thanks again, He works very hard for what he has and I hate to see something he paid $700 for go unused. - Jacob

I wish. My mother is selling the tv in a garage sale this comming weekend so the sub will be easy to access!. I will try to report back Monday evening. Thanks for the interest, Jacob
