Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
Check Speaker wire or something similar.
You should take it apart and start measuring the final transistors attached to the big heatsink. Cut the legs of the shorted transistors and it should turn on after that.
Course, you will have to check all the components at that channel, including the parts on the vertical board. They are not that many, don't be scared. Just make sure, that you are not cutting corners, measure all of them. On the base(main) board, are only a few components to check. Most likely, the white big ceramic resistor is open.

A shorted channel would make sense - it was flashing a 1/4 second bad speaker message when it started, even with nothing plugged in.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
Most likely, a shorted channel. They won't fix it, the second time for free, that is for sure.
I have just tried and they said no. Mine is not even blown, just doesn't have sound, network and USB function.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
Hi all, new member here with a question about the Onkyo's in this series and repairs by Onkyo.
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I can't start a new thread without posting something else first, so here's basically a "me too" - TX-NR616, had the DSP replaced under warranty recently, a month later the audio stopped working then something blew up inside - flash, bang, smoke. I'm going to try asking Onkyo to fix it, but I don't hold out my hope of that. I'd appreciate any advice anyone might have when dealing with them.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
Maybe unrelated but with the 606 you could repair the ???????? corruption by flashing a small 8-pin soic I think it was a 24LCxx. You would have to get the bin from a working unit I suppose.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
It seems like only one type of flash has the question marks, I believe something with the NET. All the others, have a version number.
The biggest problem would be, to find the bin file and also I would need a flash programmer. I see that, there is a Proman programmer on Ali, that supports this nand, it is around $108.
By the way, the nand is the Q3002? NAND256W3A2BN6ELast edited by tibimakai; 07-04-2017, 02:21 PM.Leave a comment:

Eeprom maybe ? If you can find the bin remove the eeprom, flash it and put it back.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
I have managed to even remove the DTS IC and re-soldered it again and still no change.
Firmware still shows a bunch of ?????????????, Network and Firmware tabs are still grayed out.
I guess the only thing left is to get another IC.
The only thing is, that I wouldn't like to be, in the ops situation.
Any input, would be appreciated.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
I have heated it up, quite for some minutes, but nothing happened.
Maybe I have another issue? Bad relay?
I'm not sure, where should I start.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
It seems that, I'm keeping this receiver.
I wanted to do a firmware upgrade and also wanted to check, the firmware version and it is blacked out, also the network tab.
This one, seems to be a DSP error, right? I don't understand why Onkyo won't repair it than?
Speaker icons, do not show up on the display and there is no second relay click.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
If you have audio output then most likely the problem is somewhere else.
Oops sorry, you do not have audio, but video... well, from what I've read, faulty chips affect both video and audio... so start testing the other components before dealing with the DSP chip.Last edited by madan1; 06-21-2017, 01:25 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
It seems like, I will have one of these myself for free. Ebay purchase and they shipped the wrong receiver. They told me, that I can keep it. But I still wait, until it s all over, before I touch it.
I haven't checked the network, but there is no audio, only video.
Onkyo, doesn't repair this receiver for free. I have checked on that site.
So, what are my options? Re-flow the DSP chip, or should I get another one?Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
No programming required. Onkyo installs an ST NAND256 chip on the bottom side of the board to house the U-boot loader and the Linux operating system so all of the code is housed in a completely different section of the board. As such, you can simply replace the DSP with a new one.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
The question is, this chip has it's own software loaded in it, or it doesn't?
I see them, for $15 or $62. Quite the difference.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
1. The Digital Signal Processors installed in the affected receivers have part numbers D810K013BZKB400 (Elite SC-55, 57, LX-85; VSX-52, 53, 1021-K, 1121-K, 2021-K61, 63, 1222-K) 65, 1522, 67, 68) and D808K013CPTP400 (Elite SC-61, 63, 65, 67, 68, 1222-K, 1522-K; VSX-60). High end receiver models have two of these chips, one for SD and the other for HD processing. Also noted in an earlier post, these chips were manufactured by Texas Instruments (TI), possibly in 2011-2012.
2. These DSP ICs were among those digital signal processor devices that TI subsequently determined to be subject to premature aging and were thus listed in notifications issued by TI in the latter part of 2012. The first of these notifications was issued by TI on 9/20/2012 as PCN#20120919000 C6747/5/3, OMAPL137, & AM17x & DA8xx/DH8xx Device Family Premature Aging Issue. This PCN was a recall of these devices, but TI offered their customers the option to either return or retain existing inventory, depending on the customers' assessment of field risk. In the same PCN, TI stated that it was implementing a fix to eliminate the issue and that the new material would be available 2Q13. The part numbers are in Table 4-DA8xx device derivatives.
3. The second notification came out on 12/18/2012. PCN#20121114000 Product Withdrawal/Discontinuance Notification C6747/5/3, OMAPL137, AM17x, and DA8xx/DH8xx Device Family informing TI's customers of the discontinuance of production due to the Premature Aging issue on revisions B and C of the DSP devices. The B in D810K013BZKB400 (9th character from left) and the C in D808K013CPTP400 are the revisions referred to in the PCN. According to TI's records at yearend 2012, these devices were purchased by their customers in past 24 months (2011-2012). The PCN strongly encouraged customers to switch to Revision D as soon as possible. The tables in the attachments to the PCN listed the affected devices and the corresponding replacement devices. Again, the part numbers are in Table 4.
4. Pioneer receiver series 70 (SC-75, 77, 79), and those manufactured starting 2013 have all been fitted with improved DSP chips. Pioneer model SC-75, 77 and 79 for instance have revision D DSPs (part number D808K013DPTP400) and model SC-85 has DSP D808K013DPTP456. To date, I have yet to read a report of a Pioneer model with this DSP chip that has failed due to the UE22 error.

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
Anybody knows, if the DSP IC is not BGA, it still can go bad?
I have a Pioneer, that has no video and the digital sound interrupts every few seconds. Analog sounds is OK.
Anybody can confirm that, if I would replace the DSP IC, with a new one, it would work?Last edited by tibimakai; 05-24-2017, 01:08 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
How do you guys get this? ( see the image )
What should be the idle V?
Should not this value be one number or everything between 6 and 12mV will do the magic?
Originally all values were around 6mV.
I went with 12mV and this thing now goes to 50*C on the top grill/cover... the fan spins even at low volume.
Damn, Onkyo should advertise this as an extra feature in cold countries - receiver+heater....Last edited by madan1; 05-23-2017, 04:04 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Onkyo TX-NR609 New DSP chip fitted
I believe Pioneer extended the warranty for a specific error code. UE22 if I recall correctly. Even TI admits issues with the DTS chips.Leave a comment:

by acedogblastThis is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.
There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as... -

Long story short:
- dad converted Asus Chromebox CN62 into Windows compatible, with mrchromebox BIOS, years and years ago
- gave the computer to his son a couple years later
- son now decided to revert it to Chrome OS, to sell it as original (re-writing BIOS with the backup one created by his dad)
- too lazy to remove the board from the case, thought a voltage regulator was the BIOS chip (you know... it has 8 legs)
(seems like the story was not that short)
He used alligator clips to read the chip. No luck reading it. Removed chip and placed on a SOC-8... -

by inck243Thanks for any help. The board version is DAZAARMB6E0 REV: E. The bios chip is winbond 25Q64JVSIQ1736. W25Q64JV is not available in AsProgrammer -- only BV CV FV or FW_1.8c. The chip won't interface with asProgrammer and a CH341A. When I have this chip on the board, the laptop will not post but when I plug it in to power, the blue LED lights up, also the orange when the battery is connected. When I push the power on button, keyboard backlight turns on and the fan starts briefely then turns off. But I can't do anything to program this bios chip so I bought another one.
