Sony TA-F690ES amplifier repair, no sound in Right channel (fixed)

This stereo amplifier from Sony flagship series ES is missing sound from Right channel. I serviced this unit 9 years ago of broken solders.

It's sensitive to knocks (yes, in amplifiers, some controlled "mistreatment" is required to diagnose), so first I suspect of more broken solders or bad speaker relay contacts. But as I touch near input selector (that row of 5 green bricks), the problem goes away. After switching input a few times, problem seems gone.

It's not wise to think that's all. Since it's a big motor-driven input selector, I decide to take it apart and clean it inside. See pictures of disassembly. Remember to mark everything with permanent marker, even if you think that it cannot be assembled back unambiguously. Sometimes you'll be wrong and serious doubts will arise when reassembling. In this case, inner shaft allows two possible orientations of rotary contact brushes, beware. Contacts were really dirty. I clean them with alcohol and rubber eraser. In more difficult cases I use fiberglass brush, gently.

Another cosmetic defect is that Source Direct LED doesn't stay lit when this switch is on. This LED is switched by [S208] via plastic stick [65]. This stick has a piece of foam that touches the switch, and this foam has disintegrated. I've replaced with a piece of 4.5mm thick foam, keeping the plastic sheet that it had on top (so the switch pin can't perforate foam).

No more problems with this repair.

    Mackie CR4 amplifier no sound
    by UserXP
    Hi, people.

I've got an amplifier assembly from Mackie CR4 parts. It's just an amplifier, there was no speaker housing, so I used my set of CR4s to test it.

Anyway, upon connecting everything and hooking the "new" amplifier to an audio source, the sound played clearly and strongly for the first ten seconds. I was happy it was working. Then the sound started to fade out during the playback until it was no more. After it had "dropped to zero", there were two very short intervals of sound playing at the normal volume, as if the amplifier was trying to...

Sony KD-75XF9005 grey Picture but Sound. TCON or panel?
    by iglitare
    Hi,

i want to repair a Sony KD-75XF9005 TV that initially only showed a grey picture.
Backlight seems to work, Sound (Setup menu after reset) works.
If i dissconnect the left FFC cable from TCON to panel i have half a screen on the right. If left cable is connected always only the grey screen.
Interchanged the cables, its always only the right side that is working. Always grey if left side is connected.
With my small knowledge i would think at least the cables are good.

Can this happen because of a bad tcon board?
Or is it always a bad/shorted...

HH Scott Model A510 Stereo Integrated Amplifier/ Graphic EQ - Blowing fuses in the LEFT speaker channel only. Any Help???
    by Sik_6ty_Sixx
So like the title says, I have an old Stereo Receiver/Amplifier that I picked up from the goodwill, it's a HH Scott Model A510. When I first got it home it had zero output. Opened it up, notice the fuses are missing. Pop in 2 new fuses (AGC4A 250V) and try again, within 5 seconds the L channel fuse POP! I don't see any visible indications of damage or arc burns on the PCB, no popped resistors or diodes, no burnt traces or blown out caps. So I decide to just try another new fuse, POP. Swapped around my R and L speaker wires, and checked the integrity of all wires and connections. Everything looks...

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
    by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...

RCA WHP141 wireless headphones wired up
    by momaka
OK, this one dates back to 2015! I thought I had posted this, but realized I didn’t when I posted a picture of something else. So here it goes…

Back in 2015, I bought a pair of RCA WHP141 wireless headphones at Micro Center for $2. I even mentioned it in the best cheap/free scores thread right here. Just forgot to follow up with that.

As mentioned back then, these are (were) 900 MHz FM wireless headphones. No modern day Blutooth or anything like that. I knew they wouldn’t be great headphones or even that good… but the price was right! So let’s take...
