Yamaha RX-V2700 Stereo sound okay Surround crackles

Morning guys 10H48 here in sunny S.A. My work is kinda up to date, so I'm dedicating my whole day to this amplifier.

I'm taking a chance here because i haven't even opened this set. The owner said he took it to another repairer who quoted him 2500ZAR just for the faulty module. So I thought if any body else has had this fault on this amplifier, they could give me a few pointers. ( Stereo sound okay---crackles in surround mode.)

I'm primarily a television tech (appyship on radar station repairing ppi's), so audio not my forte. Any help please.

    Hi.
This model amplifier have overheating problems.
The sympoms is that on +5 volume after couple hours cut off sound and after 15 minutes start sound again. Then after a short time cut out again.
The problem is bigger when you put speaker with low (89dB) sensitivity.
Your impendance selector must be at 8 Ω also the true watts is much lower that the manufacter said and have a lot of clip on big volumes.
So a lot of times the thermal protect goes on.
Now your problem seems to be cold joints or the surround feed from your player dont work well.(maybe your cable).
Check first your setup before open the unit.

If you hear the relays click when the sound cut off on surround you have cold joints probable on the speaker terminals(some people is barbarians when put the cables) but also in the pcb from vibrations.

Yes charis, seems to be either the customers cable or player. I dont have a multi channel player, so I just used a stereo signal to input into the SURROUND input and swapped my speakers to the SURROUND speakers----no crackle.

I did the same for the CENTRE, and FRONT----- no crackle.

I see an input for the sub woofer, but no speaker terminals for sub woofer??

Also how do I get audio out of the SURROUND BACK/ BI AMP terminals??

Also how do I get audio out of the PRESENCE SP1 & SP2 terminals??

Re: Yamaha RX-V2700 Stereo sound okay Surround crackles

Follow up: Spoke to owner, said turn up volume and listen to audio between tracks on a cd. Connected FRONT & SURROUND speakers, cranked up the volume, and there is a SLIGHT hum (NOT crackle) more so on the SURROUND than on the FRONT speakers.

Not sure of signal to noise ratios on this amp, will rather refund deposit and refer customer to Yammy agent. He swings past tomorrow, so will post outcome later.

Its normal on analog inputs to have some noise on full volume.
Enable the pure direct and you will be fine.
Put the volume to full and with no signal you hear a noise if you put your ear to the tweeter. Its normal.
Also select a digital input and see if you have a ham probably not.
At the end make sure that your mains power socket have ground .

Hi charis, thanks, the owner came in and demonstrated that in either Stereo or Pure direct the sound is fine. only when choosing Cinema, Hall or other processing that there is an audible noise on one Channel.

This also confirms with what the audio technician at Yamaha said yesterday, that the DSP module is faulty. Today I will get Price & Availability to see if the job is do-able.

A bit of concern is that the customer says he connected ALL of his surround speakers in parallel and plugged it into the FRONT speaker output.(maybe Barbarian is too strong a word to use) To top it off, the cabinet where the amplifier resides has inadequate ventilation and has to run with external fan when amp driven hard for extended periods.

I'm hoping job is rejected when I get P & A. (sorry to say). Will see as day progresses (Half Ten in the Morning here/ at posting)

Re: Yamaha RX-V2700 Stereo sound okay Surround crackles

Much later, removed DSP pcb, resoldered poor looking connector plugs, & reassembled. No joy, still has distortion when entering any of the digitally processed effects like hall, club, stadium, etc.

Many caps to check/replace. Is it worth the effort? Have heard that the ceramic capacitors could also be an issue.

Hi Grunder, I would like to chim in with my little experience.
When in surround mode or all channels, is crackle/noise on all channels or just some?

Hi, sorry slow response, customer will use amp in STEREO MODE only. The fault was logged incorrectly as "Surround crackle", the amp uses FRONT A speakers only, NO SURROUND. The fault only occurs when using Digital Sound Processing. The customer has since collected the amp. Thanks for response.
