Ok, i've bought a multimeter, what are the important spots to measure? Here's a pic of the power board.
Cheers.

Re: Sony STR DH820 receiver powering up once in a while
The curious thing is that this is a problem that happened day one after i bought it. I got it fixed, although the guy said it 'had nothing wrong', it worked for a year straight. Now after a while it came back. I just find odd that this happens even with a new product. I will test this later and give my results, thanks!Leave a comment:

Re: Sony STR DH820 receiver powering up once in a while
Valeu pela resposta rápida cara hahaeh
This plastic cap is around the relay/contacts or is it part of the relay itself? Now im confused if those contacts are what connects the relay with the board or if they are internal. There are some relay schematics on the other post, maybe that comes in handy.
Btw, using the sand paper or equivalent, wouldn't i shrink the contacts and make them worst? Or the purpose is just to remove the dirt on top of it? Thanks!Leave a comment:

Re: Sony STR DH820 receiver powering up once in a while
Vc pode usar uma lima de unha por exemplo ou equivalente. I just had the the same problem on another amplifier, same thing, just cleaned the contacts and it worked again. Remove the plastic cap commonly found on these relays and you'll have access to the contacts. Then use contact spray or as I said, use a sand paper or a nail file.

Sony STR DH820 receiver powering up once in a while
Hey guys, im having trouble powering up/keeping turned on my receiver. I saw this post:https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=29661
And my problem is exactly the same, however i still dont own a multimeter (going to buy one) and i dont know a single thing about repairing eletronics.
But the thing is that it seems like the problem is the contacts in the relay (based on the other guy experience). I hear a click when i plug in the power, but it will only turn on if there is a second, stronger, click. What i want to know is how can i improve the contacts without soldering It again. In the other post the guy said he sanded the contacts, but english is not my primary language, so im not really sure how to do that or if this is gonna help me at all.
I wish i could post more specific info, but i wanted to lay this here so you guys canould tell the noob here what you pros need to know
I will get the multimeter, but im not really sure where are the key points to test. So if anybody have an experience with this problem on a dh820, or knows how to sand the contacts (i searched but returned nothing usefull) or even what infos more i need to provide, please contribute!
Thanks a lot.Tags: None

by sretchkoHey fellow solder fume lovers, I have a Vintage Sony Receiver STR-4800 SD that has me stumped.
The Balance Pot has to be set at about 30 degrees (11 o'clock) to the left for the output to be balanced (see photo). I'm using an oscope, sig gen 1kHz sine, 8 ohm dummy load).
When output is balanced (11 o'clock left) both channels clip at about 19 vac / 45 watts RMS, Amp is rated at 35 watts so I know the amp modules are good. Square wave also looks good when turning bass & treble pots and is in phase.
I pulled the balance pot, (Dual 10K MN Taper) cleaned with...Badcaps Electronics Repair Forum & Schematic Search-

by blake.sI have two separate tv's that are having the exact same symptoms. A Sony XR-65X90J and a Sony KD-55X80J. They both are not powering on at all and do not show any led light status. I am having issues with getting the backs off because both sets are the screwless type. Not sure if anybody has any ideas on if it is indeed a power supply issue or these types are known to have other issues.
Also, any ideas on how to get the sets backs off?

by erickeri1234Ok start off by saying I have some tv repair but not much on the receiver end.
Picked up a Sony str-dn850 home receiver when I first plugged it in powered it up it came on and the system check relay clicked and about 3 seconds later it went into protection mode.
I powered it off and on. Comes on no problem.
Hooked up speakers and it started to pop and crackle but the volume was all the way down.. and I was only getting that sound out of the left channel. Right channel had no sound.. but every time I turn the volume up it has a smell crackling sound on ever volume number......-

by dkneyleDiagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.
Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about... - Loading...
