Harman Kardon AVR 7300 replace capacitors

    Hello.

I need to replace all 5 big capacitors on mainboard but can't find
any data on them which sitting there now.

    1 piece Chemi-con DL 10000uF/16WV 85 degree celsius, snap-in, 25x30mm
    2 pieces Chemi-con AHS 4700uF/35WV 85 degree celsius, snap-in, 25x30mm
    2 pieces Chemi-con AHS 2200uF/100V 85 degree celsius, snap-in, 25x50mm

    What can I replace with?

I found jamicon LP series on www.elfa.se which have high rippel current.

    What do you suggest?

Since i have serious doubts it has a switching power supply, general-purpose caps should do just fine. Although, for the sake of longevity & reliability, you'll want to look at 105c caps.

And just as a personal note, i'd rather stick to the japanese brands It might be worth checking your regional branch of Farnell, though - i seem to recall Elfa had some huge prices, at least the last time i checked (couple years ago).

      Thank you.

No, there is no switching power supply.
I bought 2 ELNA LAO (for audio) for another cheaper amp I repaired and it sounds really good, no hum, I'm no HIFI entuast but still ...
I am most thoughtful on whether they should be low or high impedance, low or high leakage current.

To quote a friend of mine (also a member of this forum) - "Audiophile grade means they failed in more intensive (or industrial?) applications"

panasonic or rubycon is the advice most will give.

From Farnell, yes - for some reason, they only seem to stock Chemicons in the US, and that's a 25eu+VAT (plus perhaps customs?) extra charge...

              not customs,
intercontinental orders have a fixed £15 handling charge!
i'v noticed this before listed on the site.

Yes, what I can see farnell take 200 SEK (~£15) in handling charge.
So for me I think it should be cheaper from Elfa.se or from ebay.

How important is rippelcurrent in Audio equipment?
I found in elfa.se RubyCon 10000uF, 25V, 105 degree, with 2.64A in rippel current, I've seen other with 3A or some more.

Re: Harmon Kardon avr 7300 replace capacitors

See also TME.EU , they probably ship to Sweden and should have some of those capacitors in stock:

Here's the page with capacitors: http://www.tme.eu/en/katalog/passive...der=ASC&page=1

On a quick search I found some Panasonic capacitor for the 10000uF 16v for example, and they also have some Samwha brand capacitors - Samwha is not a great brand (it's above Chinese capacitors but not up to par with the nichicon/chemicon/panasonic/rubycon ) but for your application they would be fine, they won't be subjected to the stress other capacitors would be subjected in switching power supplies.

Also don't resume your search to 85c rated capacitors, look for 105c rated capacitors as well (105c would be much better and you should actually look at them first, only look at 85c rated ones if you can't find soime with your dimension requirements).
Also, for a capacitor like the one 10000uF 16v, you can look at capacitors rated for 25v or 35v with same capacitance. As long as the diameter and height is right, the circuit will accept the capacitors just fine.

for power supply smoothing, ripple handling is very important - the higher the better.
for audio signal filtering, esr is more important - lower is better.

Re: Harmon Kardon avr 7300 replace capacitors

It seems I found what I'm looking for on se.sr-online.com , thanks selldoor!

It will be general types of Panasonic, they are for high temp in power supply:
                        HA 10000uF/16V 105°C
UP 4700uF/35V 85°C , couldn't find the one I wanted for 105°C with good rippel current...
                        HA 2200uF/100V 105°C

I hope it work then... and sounds good.

                        Edit:
Lol. forgot to reload this thread, missed stj and mariushm comments...
Thank you all for the help.

Eh.. what I can see se.sr-online.com only sale to companies...

"The sale of the seller's products are sold only to companies, regardless of the form of payment used and whether the order via phone, fax, mail, e-mail, Internet or otherwise."
