JBL Subwoofer SUB200/230 - intermittently goes quiet

    Hi,
I have been given this Sub to try and fix.
It seems to go quiet after a while, sometimes turning the sub level dial at the rear makes it loud again. (when it's quiet it just sounds like someone has turned the volume down.

I thought this variable resistor might be faulty, but after removing it it seems to test fine, a nice gradual rise and fall in resistance on the multimeter.

Has anyone got ideas of what to check next?

On one hand, i don't suppose you'd be inclined to attempt to trace out at least some of the (input) circuitry, would you?

And on the other hand, on a Jamo Sub 200 that i bought faulty last year, both the low-pass adjust pot and the volume pot had went wonky, so... Even if the volume pot seems to measure ok, a replacement one can't be more than a buck or two It's not like they used Alps Blue Velvet ones as stock, anyway

Could have been bad solder joints on the potentiometer - the movement caused by turning it may have restored connection momentarily.

Replace the potentiometer and if it still shows the fault, you could trace the signal with another amp or scope and see if you can find out what happens to it when it level drops.

Thanks guys, If i get a chance over the next few days I'll re solder in a new one then see what happens.
That service manual is gold, thankyou very much.

Just an update: Replaced the potentiometer and it's working like new now.

                Thanks for your help.

I've got a subwoofer that I've had for nearly 20 years, it did come with a basic remote which I've lost. It's a generic make of subwoofer, I can't see a brand sticker on it. It comes with 2 speakers.

                      Good day ladies and gentleman!

I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.

This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).

I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but...

Klipsch Promedia 2.1 rhythmic subwoofer "pulsing" during standby
                      by Xan03
                      Hi,

I have this 2.1 Klipsch set where the subwoofer emits a constant whine in standby, in addition to a constant rhythmic pulsing/thumping. Only way to make it stop is to cut power. I think this thread mentions the same issue, though my set is not a BT one: https://community.klipsch.com/index....-bt-subwoofer/

I think all this Klipsch gear is using crappy capacitors. Is it worth trying to replace the caps in the subwoofer amp to make this go away?

How to test Subwoofer Amplifier with only a multimeter
                      by jinu_j
                      Hi Folks

Need some advice on how to test a subwoofer amplifier if i have access to only a multimeter.

                      Problem
I have a Boston Acoustics active Subwoofer (soundware S). Its rated output is 200W. But the output i am getting is very low i can barely hear/feel it even if put the gain at max. I replaced all the capacitors in the Subwoofer amplifier but still no change.

Is there anyway to test this without getting an oscilloscope/Function generator to see if the fault is with amplifier, driver or the source??

                      Any advice would be appreciated...
