Sony CDP-295/407 tray opens only halfway

The mechanism works in other unit, and the working mechanism does the same in this broken unit. So the fault must be in the motherboard. Eject may open the tray with a second try, but it will not close or play any disc.

This is weird, the mainboard is also working. The front panel causes the problem, all works with another front panel. Can it be just a faulty microswitch?

Changing the Eject switch did not help. Still opens halfway, after a few seconds it opens fully. But don't come back in.

Sony CDP players, I've had problems with the switches.
Check the tray mech limit switches, just drag some paper between the squished contacts to clean off oxide. Or use a PPE contact cleaner if you can do it without spraying a mess.

One CDP drove me nuts, it kept returning to the beginning of the CD track 1 whenever it wanted to. Just tap the unit.
Turns out it was the (low voltage) ON/OFF pushbutton switch making bad connection intermittently going open and the player thought it was a reboot. It is always powered on inside.

No change, the powerbutton works in the other unit. Only possibility is the IC401 under the LCD.

Not really making sense if swapping the main board or mechanism does not fix it.

Check the remote RX IC402 is not making noise or garbage pulses to confuse the drawer controller.
"Defect Switch" I think activates when the switches are not making sense i.e. load in and load out are asserted makes no sense.

Removed the IR receiver but no change. Eject-button will open the tray to full open, but does not close and the tray motor continues to spin.
Eject function seems to be always on, I can't push the tray back if power is on.

                  tray motor continues to spin?
remove the tray and clean the belt and pully's.
if the motor turns the tray should move, and if the tray cant move the motor should stall.
only 3rd option is slippage because the belt is dirty or stretched.
                  very common on games consoles

and check the tray open/closed switches with a meter - preferably from the control chip to eliminate bad connections between them.

Can't be in the mechanism, as it works with another front panel. Tray opens and needs force to put back in agains the motor (didn't do that).

maybe the mech is stiff and one panel cant supply enough current?

Got a third player which has working parts inside. Changed the the front panel PCB and the same fault appears. Luckily this has the case in poor condition, so I took the PCB from it, and it works with the 407. It's different but works. The IC is on the backside and such things.

Sony DVD player stuck tray (DVP-SR310P)
                          by bogosort

                          Hello,

I have a Sony DVD player with a stuck tray. It seems that moving or pressing on the tray makes it work.

                          Anyone knows why?

                          Thank you....

                          by Xenon-Codex
I found this Stanton C.500, a double cd-player. It has two Sony mechanisms, but are these some version of the KSS-series? There's a sticker WSL-2130/V on both. I can't test them as the control unit is missing....

                          Sony KDL-46HX850 Can't upgrade/update firmware
                          by dkneyle
Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.

Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about...
