    Onkyo tx-nr509 power supply problem

    Hello all,
I have the problem with this model in that at pin 2 and 3 on D6901 (see diagram attached) I could not get any AC voltage. All the voltage measurement included in the diagram. Any ideas?

Thank you in advance for all your help.

What is the ground ref. point are you using? The reason I ask is that the Emitter of Q6707, 6708 are connected to Ground, you picture is showing 5V at the Emitters, so that cannot be right, the relays are not on. Are all the boards mounting screws tight since it uses mounting holes for Ground connection to the chassis?

Thank you BUDM. I found the crack in the board for the ground line.. that was caused 5v on the ground... Now the unit have 20Vac in and 20Vdc out at D6901.. And it have the problem when the unit turn on, it only stay for 2 seconds and shut down.. protection mode ? ... I still don't know why it's still not send 40Vac come from YEL (S1H+) and GRN (S1H-) post.

Re: Onkyo tx-nr509 power supply problem

So the 40V is not being switched in because Q6707 for relays RL692, 691 is off due to not getting the turn on voltage on connector pin SEC1H, You can monitor that pin to see if it changes state or not.
I do not know what kind of protection detector circuits are being used to monitor the faults. It must be monitoring the critical sections of the circuit. Does the manual show how many circuits the protection circuit is monitoring?

There are 4 protection cc in diagram (attached). The VOLH, PROTECT_VCC, VPROTECT, and IPROTECT.

Re: Onkyo tx-nr509 power supply problem

As you can see, there may be 4 detection lines but one detection line is fed by a bunch of OR circuits.
I.E. the VOLH is fed by 7 OR circuits (D6020~6026, D6026 fpr SBR_OUT detection), so any one the Diode'Anode goes high, it will trigger the protection circuits.
IPRO is also fed by OR transistors (Q6XXX~6011, Q6011 looks like for monitoring Front Right channel).
I cannot see the rest of the circuits, but as you can see, you will have to find out which one trips the protection circuits.
So it is not going to be easy fix. I would inspect the output circuits for any shorted circuits first.
BTW, did you check all the boards for any cracks and broken traces?

Thanks BUDM for your quick response. I have solved the problem with this unit. All the trouble was causing by bad "IC STK443-530" that drive all the C, FL, FR Channel and FL channel was blown inside the IC when compare with the same IC.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                  by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

yx-305d bench power supply decreasing voltage problem
                  by ashan000
This power supply is 30v 5amp. Problem is when turned on after about 3 minutes voltage starting to decrease slowly. (like - 5.8 > 5.7 > 5.6 > 5.5) can't see any damaged component or dry solder joints. Checked main 2 transistors with multimeter. Reading seems ok. Tried changing potentiometers(both coarse and fine) still the same situation. Can any one help me to troubleshoot? What voltages to check? Any ideas helps to fix this. thank you.!

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
                  by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Problem with LG Plasma 60PM6700 - Random power downs
                  by theone111
I have an LG Plasma TV 60PM6700 for the past ~12 years.

In the last ~3-4 months I have been having some issues.
                  1. Problem: It started with random picture disappearing (sound still worked).
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait a few seconds before turning it on again.
                  2. Problem: Then it got worse and the TV started to shut down and when turning on the no picture just sound.
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait about 10-20 seconds and turn it on again to solve.
                  3. Problem: TV shuts down
