Guitar amp is humming. It's just a solid state amp. Music still comes through. Hums regardless of wether i plug a guitar in or not. My house wiring is fine, it sounds the same no matter where i plug in, and power conditioner does not help. Are my AC filter capacitors failing?

Is the hum affected by the master volume control? If so, the problem is probably between the signal input and the amplifier circuits. If not, something is probably wrong with the amplifier circuit itself, or a defective ground.
I had a guitar amp that had a loud buzz, but it wasn't affected by the volume control. Oddly, the volume control still affected the volume of the input (you could hear the guitar volume changing), but not the hiss and buzz coming out of the speaker. It turned out to have a defective grounding in the amplifier circuitry.You know there's something wrong when you open your PC and it has vented Rubycons...Comment

yeah the volume does not affect the hum, but otherwise still controls the guitar volume normally.
my capacitors (two large Rubicon 2200uf 35v) don't show any obvious signs of failure,
but the amp definately sounds like AC or something is coming through to the speaker.
oh and every time I turn it off there is a loud POP from the speaker.
i really want to think there is some deffect in the manufacturing, because this amp isn't that old.Comment

Nice SG; can't tell whether it's a bass or a guitar. Sounds like a AC filter cap. Do you have access to an oscilloscope? That would let you look at the ripple on the supply voltages (a DMM might even suffice). If it's not the supply caps, look for broken wires and loose circuit board mounting screws (you could always blame that on a roadie) which could mess up a ground connection.PeteS in CA

it's a Jay Turser Classic 25rc. It's just a little 25watt solid state but besides the hum i really like the sound. I got it brand new a couple years ago and as far as I can remember it's done this since I got. I got a deal on it cause it was a floor model so I'm wondering if either it got damaged from people trying it or if they used it for the model because it had this problem.
That SG is actually just a low-end model bass. I played for my dad's church band for awhile it was the church's for what it was and what they got it for it actually played and sounded really nice.Last edited by joshdaniels713; 11-07-2006, 03:14 PM.Comment

I have a strange fault on a Sony amplifier. The volume control varies the display from MIN, then 1 up to 30 and then MAX as expected. At MIN there is no sound. However, at 1 it is quite loud and increasing above 1 does not change the sound level.
I have tried a Cold Reset as per the service manual.
I have looked at the I2C clock and data to volume control chip IC501 (BD3499FV). Data is only sent to IC501 when the volume is set to MIN or 1. At any other setting no data is sent to IC501.
I have looked all the way through the service manual and tried many online... -
On this Vizio D65x, the volume will change on its own. I don't mean like during commercials where the volume will increase. I mean its like the (+) volume button on the remote is pressed and the actual volume dialog is displayed on the screen going up. It will do this, then the volume may start going down. It might go all the way to "0"or it might stop at a different number, then start going back up. The whole time its doing this, the volume dialog is shown on the screen.
It wont do it until it has been "ON" for 20 or 30 minutes, so it does seem to be heat related.... -

I bought a used Marantz SR5007 and it's giving me some issues that I can't seem to really place. It functions well in most settings, ARC mostly works, it has no issues driving my speakers in any of the digital input modes, but I'm having issues running analog inputs in direct or pure direct mode. For some reason in this mode there's distortion for every volume increment I give it, but once the volume is stable it has no issues. Muting creates a loud pop, switching to another source also causes a pop and so does turning off the amp in that mode. Again, no issue in the digital modes.... -
Good day folks. I want to run a Bose subwoofer and some random speakers on my PC at home. I don't have an amp for this project yet and I was looking for decent solutions and I figured I could very well run them on a car amp. Why not a regular hi-fi amp ? I figured a car amp would fit better under my desk. I looked at a Sony XMN1004 which is relatively affordable, yet of decent enough quality and with good reviews overall. ) I have has two drivers inside, each with its own separate terminal, so I can hook it up to the Sony...

I have this soundbar and when I turn it on it works until I turn the volume above 30.
Then the display show “PROT” protection and shuts off.
I can turn it right back on and it works until volume hits 30 again.
There is a little static on the surround speakers so I unplugged them but still have same problem. I tried unplugging all speakers also and when volume goes above 30 it shuts off.
I can turn the volume above 30 if nothing is playing but as soon as I play something it shuts off.
It will play fine for hours with volume...
