Glad to hear that you fixed the board!
Excellent job too!!

Re: help anyone about MSI board
Hi Rainbow!
Have you found where to buy the original or did you find replacement for the 2SC5001?
Hard to say what will happen if the 2SC5001 gets shorted but if the price for the transistor isn't that high just try to replace it.
Cost for the controller IC HIP6501A is around $2 so why not give it a shot?
At least for fun

Re: Ungrounded TV set electrucuting me through Composite RCA cable
The tv chassie might be grounded by the coax shield, you could brake up both inner conductor and the shield and put two caps in series with the inner conductor and shield, could be worth to try? Remember some years ago when I was mounting a tv antenna, while sitting on the metal roof I was touching the coax shield that was connected to the tv-set inside the house I got hit by a pain that felt like I was stung by a wasp on my stern:
Guess that the roof was acting like some kind of virtual ground.

Re: Strange Voltage on long lan csbles and generall grounding praxis
You are right Per but there is one thing more induced mains fields, long cable runs will most probably pick up more and result in bigger potential differences. Even equipments that are not safety grounded will have some potential differences against a real ground.

Re: antivirus update fuckups
I belive most antivirus softs got their weak spots, I think you just
had bad luck
Most of my friends use AVG and they have never had any trouble so far.
Had to buy a new router this time a Netgear, I've had enough trouble with my old D-link which ended up in a bad smelling cloud comming up under my workbench

Re: antivirus update fuckups
Have used AVG free edition for more than one year now and it really does a good job ofcourse pro-edition can do much more but free edition got most of my needs.
Try it

Re: ADSL Modem DSL-300G
No wonder they fail now and then these modemes run real hot.
Have looked in to several of D-links modems but this is actually the first time I've found a bulging cap, seems that better airflow cure many of their problems. Just by open the top cover of my D-link router all shut down problems in my network stopped

Re: ADSL Modem DSL-300G
Thank's!
Yes they are running real hot inside, there is not much air that pass inside the box, I think it is a common problem with D-link Friend of mine mounted a small fan on top of the cover and got rid of all problems their mains adapters are also prone to fail

ADSL Modem DSL-300G
Lately I've been having a hard time to log on, no one in the neighbourhood had any problem so I decided that the fault was at my place.
A quick check under the hood showed a bulged TEAPO35V/220uF replaced it and now I go faster than ever...

Re: help anyone about MSI board
Hi wonder_step!
Seems like the 2SD2118 got same package (CPT3) as 2SC5001 but 2SD2118 has only Ic 5A compared to 10A for the original, I'm not sure how much current a DDR draw someone else on this forum probably know. Think we need to know what kind of controller they use on your motherboard, backtrack from the base of 2SC5001.

Re: help anyone about MSI board
Well, the 3,3V can deliver quite a big amount of current so even if the linear regulator (2SC5001) is set to 2,5 it will have to dissipate a lot of power if there is a short. Can you see if there is any IC close by the transistor, they might use same controller IC as in the data sheet.
Power that the 2sc5001 has to dissipate is Vin(3,3V)-Vout(2,5V)xIc
Are this transistor shorted?

Re: help anyone about MSI board
Hi wonder_step!
Seems like you are dealing with an BJT, C5001 is most probably 2SC5001 low Vce(sat) NPN transistor supplying voltage for the memory.
Here's the data sheet:
And luckily I have managed to recover some of the data that was almost totally wiped out from my HDD, found a pdf file and here's a link, check out page 13:
2SC4669 is given as replacement for the 2SC5001 but I would try to find the original or better, hard to say what caused the death of your C5001.

Re: Dell 1505fp dead
Hi aceshigh!
Are there any voltages at all out from the psu, backlight?
Have you managed to find out which pin is the PSU,s on/off if so check for any dc at the secondary side if not hook up the scope and check for any start up pulses, had one lcd monitor which was dead found out that as soon as a load was connected to the psu the output voltage dropped to nearly zero a optocoupler was the culprit, don't recal the brand.
What kind of switcher does your psu use?

Re: White IBM lCD Screen
Thanks Rainbow!
Yes I know about the backlight, I'll open it up and check the PSU I might as well take a snapshot of it
There is no menu and the brightness can't be adjusted, I'll be back later.

Re: TV problem
As Rainbow stated dried out caps could cause this but check for any cold solder joint around the HV transformer or in the psu, could be lots of things.
What brand model?

White IBM lCD Screen
Hi!
One of our IBM lcd monitors at work suddenly turned white nothing shows up just white.
Never had anything like it before so wonder if any of you have had any similar trouble, the model of the monitor is IBM 6637-AB0 have no schematic so if anyone got one and could share it with me I would be more than happy

Re: EVB ESR Meter (Bob Parker Design)
A good choice willawake!
Guess you can trust the readings comming from Bob P ESR meter, got one myself but the older version, had it for 4 or 5 years and I tell you it has saved me lot of time searching for caps with high esr lurking arround in PSU,s.
Measure a whole bunch of low ESR caps in parallel like on a mother might fool you

Re: My way to recap
Hi kc8adu!
Yes it it folish but didn't say I was drilling I said that I was using a drill and I don't use a drilling machine it's only by hand, using a drilling machine is probably the best way to destroy a via.
The only thing I do is to clear the hole if there is any solder left just to get the legs through.
I've been working ”some” years with radar PCB design so I do know how brittle these vias are, I'm sorry if I said something that was misleading so to those who intend to use a drill, don't do it it's crazy!!

Re: My way to recap
I know what you mean Newbie2.
It's easy to totally destroy one of these tiny vias so your words were just right.
I would like to have more feedback if anyone else have tried my recapping method maybe I just had big luck all the time
Promised to check some application notes and put up the links here, hopefully it is to any help for someone.
