Re: people are sheep when it comes to beats audio!

Hah... I'm working on a project at work -- it's a headphone amplifier. The specification states a certain chipset to be used -- in order to achieve ~0.000003% THD+N. I have to follow the customer's specification, but that kind of figure is insane. Research shows that the majority of people cannot hear beyond 1% and the limit is 0.1% for essentially everyone. But, the audiophools will buy it!

Nah. My hearing isn't all that great anymore, but I can still hear the difference between crappy and good headphones. I think goontron pretty much answered it with the title - people are just ignorant (if sheep sounds too harsh ).

Not doubting you at all, but do you have any links to the articles containing this research? I'm just interested in reading it since I am probably with that 1%-insensitive majority. The headphone amp I build out of that TV amplifier states 0.3% typical distortion, but with a PC that properly drives it, I don't really hear any distortion. Hissing - yes.

I also built a simple class A headphone amp a few weeks ago out of general purpose transistors and it sounded quite fine IMO (but more on that in a future thread ).

The 'engineering' part was also sarcasm. Dr Dre lent his name to a brand for money: that's his contribution, he sold out to punt a product.

You should recalibrate your sarcasm detector, as my last post was set to 'blatant'.

The only problem with vehicular speakers, is that they're 4 ohms and the like and I think I caused the death of a Soundesign amp, albeit it was cheap, anyways!

            Lower ohms=more amperes!

I suspect I accidentally killed a Soundesign single-speaker system with a car speaker in a box.

I very recently got 2 Polk VT60 speakers and put them in a box! 2 boxes with 1 each in them. Heard that most of the wood was repurposed from an armoire!

And I don't regret that! (Unlike 6"x9"s or the like!)

It's now known as the "speakers made for ceilings in a box project", as they are rated at 8 ohms, the most common rating for home receivers.

                  Hello,

I am looking for HP ENVY Beats Special Edition 23-n019na All-in-One Desktop PC BIOS dump. To be exact, Winbond 25x40 dump. I accidentally deleted the data on this chip while updating the BIOS. The file was 512KB.

                  Thanks for the help....

                  Do people still overclock?
                  by eccerr0r
Yeah it's free speed, but do people generally still overclock their computers risking instability, using more power/cooling, etc. or have people simply accepted stock speeds or perhaps it's pretty much impossible to overclock in general because CPUs are already at its limits, or perhaps it's not possible without surgery, ridiculous cooling, or signed firmware hacks nowadays?

Wondering if I should run my 2.67GHz C2Q at 3 or 3.2GHz and risk instability or corruption during the summer months as it's nice and cool now during the winter...

                  Random people pinging your computer...
                  by eccerr0r
I do have a website but it's not for general use. Definitely not doing any e-commerce, and at most it's just general computer information if it has any value at all.

However I noticed that people are sending ping requests to my computer, constantly. In fact I get around 8000 individual ICMP echo requests a day though each IP sending them send multiple packets.

I set my computer to stop replying to them to see if it would stop. Nope.

What value is there is to sending these if I don't respond to them? Anyone have similar data?

                  Just curious of what...

Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Gen3 stuck on "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" screen
                  by BMCappelletti
                  Hi everyone.
Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Gen 3, stuck on the "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" screen.
Found a lot of people with this issue, but with no definitive answer. Some people managed to get away accessing BIOS, going to Startup and turning off "Option Key Display". For me that only removed the interrupt normal start up message, leaving only the Lenovo logo.
Most people say hitting Enter does not work. It's true, if you wait a few seconds. But if you hit Enter right away you get the options to enter BIOS (which works), run diagnostics (goes to a...

                  Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....
