Amplifier snaps, crackles, & pops for first 3 minutes, then works fine

I've got an Olivia 42" LCD TV (542-B11) with an onboard amplifier that snaps, crackles & pops pretty bad when you first turn it on. Doesn't matter if the volume is high, low, muted, or speakers turned off in menu, the sounds continue to crackle (at the same loudness) for about 3 minutes, and then slowly dissipates to normal operation. Turning off the TV for 60 seconds or less prevents the problem from reappearing, but turning it off for any length of time (more than 5 minutes) will cause it to happen again. All other functions of the TV are fine. I suspect bad caps in the audio amp. Anyone else have any other ideas? I don't think it's a transformer issue because the sound works just fine once the TV has 'warmed up' so to speak.

Bad connections/solder in the power amp. This would be after the volume control ICs, which is all the menu adjustments would affect.

As it heats up, the board and parts expand and connections 'get better.'

Good luck, you may have one of those PWM switching amplifiers. Hopefully, you don't have to deal with any of the SMTs.

Where should I be looking for the power amp? I've got basically 3 pcb's on this TV - the power supply, the tuner card pcb, and the main pcb.

I used a hose to try and zero in on the crackling at board level and it's coming from the area near where the speaker inputs plug in to the pcb. There's a row of 4 inductors near the speaker outputs, and it sounds like they're sizzling pretty good at startup. It's really hard to tell if it's those 4 inductors or the capacitors nearby.

As far as the power amp goes, wouldn't I see some large transistor mounted on a heatsink somewhere for the sound amp?

You've got a PWM amp- there should be an IC that feeds those inductors, which then feed the speaker outputs. Those inductors are part of the LC output filter. This is to an amplifier what a switching power supply is to an 'old-fashioned' linear supply. As you've found out, it looks nothing like a conventional amplifier.

Try poking the board with a wooden dowel when it seems to be acting up. This assumes you can run it opened up without disconnecting anything. There are usually plenty of SMTs in one of these, so don't knock any loose.

I found a pretty decent price on a full main board, so I replaced it. Problem solved.

snap crackle pop? maybe you accidentally got some rice crispies inside it

Anywho...I ended up replacing the main board on this TV for $80. Owner was happy, and he got a spare board to keep should his new one crap out (albeit that old board cannot use audio).

I probably could have swapped capacitors or inductors on this, but since they were so very small I feared I would have damaged the board in the process.

KDL-60EX500. Comes on fine, sound is fine, backlights come on. Blank screen. Already tried reset POWER/VOL-. Anyone else have this problem? Possibly bad T-Con RUNTK4244ZZ or panel? Could main or power supply cause this? There were 2 blown 560u 35v on power going to backlights but they were still working fine. Thanks for your help.

Dell ATX PSU won’t start, but forcing it works fine?
                by CapLeaker
Got a case of something new weird at work. There is an old 2nd gen Intel i3 in an old “Pizza box” shell that has a small form factor power supply. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures and model number off it.

Anyway, I get to work and get to look at this computer. Standby LED on the PSU is on, but the computer won't start. Hmm o.k. take the battery out of the main board try again, nothing. O.k. then… unplug the power supply from the main board and put in a full size ATX PSU (yeeeesss! Exact that blown Powerman IP that I fixed a while back), plug it in and the old...

RTX3090 working fine but fans not spinning
                by emil_t
Hello guys. I have a problem with a PNY XLR8 GAMING RTX3090 graphics card. The problem is that it displays and works fine, but the fans don't spin at all. The problem occurred when someone else removed the fans in order to clean it and broke one of the fan connectors. He replaced it himself and after that, it wasn't working anymore. I guess he damaged something else in the process. What i have done so far: I found 2 capacitors next to the connector that were in a bad shape, he must have touched them with his tools - they weren't shorted, but i replaced them with similar ones from a similar card....

Magnum IA.100 Amplifier Switches on, No Output, Possible Input Side fault?
                by flibidy
I have here a Magnum IA.100 which belongs to my parents.

The unit powers on & when the relay kicks in, you get a pop from the speakers (this might sound weird but is usual behavior for this amp). However, you get nothing coming through it from any of the inputs & no pops and crackls from any of the controls.

Because of the sound from the speaker when the amp turns on I have assumed that the output section probably works but I could be wrong & I'm not sure how to test that side of things further.

Polk Audio RTi100 Plate Amplifier won't power on and intermittently honks and buzzes
                by MrCommunistGen
My childhood best friend was killed about 9 years ago. His parents are finally letting go of his things, and they offered me his Polk RTi100 tower speakers. The Polk RTi100 towers are one of a handful of designs from the early 2000s that is a full range 3-way tower with a built-in self-powered subwoofer. This is accomplished with a plate amp integrated into the speaker input panel.

I think they used them for a while, but they've been sitting for at least a few years now. After about 40 hours of driving to their house and back (both they and I have moved in the last 9 years) I got...
