So 2 days ago i went to get something in the fridge and the thermostat lights were off and the fridge lights were off as well. Fridge is still cooling but i am hearing a buzzing/clicking noise from the back of the fridge. Freezer lights and freezer still working. When i removed the back panel there is a box next to the compressor that it sounds like the sound is coming from. Im guessing a control board. Any ideas of what this could be?

Re: Whirlpool gold model GS6SHEXNS00 Fridge
If the fridge is still cooling then the compressor etc. is still working, I would go with what budm posted with the link to a bad controler board, here are a couple pictures of one, whats the chances of a bad cap on its power supply... relays coils don't like low voltage or unfiltered dc very much which could account for the buzzing, just a thought.
On another forum a guy said his original board had a burt trace? http://www.diychatroom.com/f47/whirl...m-5577/index4/Last edited by R_J; 06-22-2017, 01:01 PM.Comment

Re: Whirlpool gold model GS6SHEXNS00 Fridge
Thank you, i clicked on the form and the samething he is experiencing i am as well. When you open the door you hear a clicking/buzzing noise. When you close it it stops. I will see if i see any bap caps or any other stuff that looks damaged. Thanks again guys for all the input.Comment

Re: Whirlpool gold model GS6SHEXNS00 Fridge
Look for a switching or a buck converter IC chip most of time they have 6 to 8 pins if it does change it and the caps around or near that chipLast edited by sam_sam_sam; 06-22-2017, 01:30 PM.Comment

Re: Whirlpool gold model GS6SHEXNS00 Fridge
On some Whrilpool units it has control board just in side the door where the display if has one those board they have some issues with the software on the controller board
If you put the serial numbers here I check for you if your is one those units if it is the only thing you can do is replace the controller boardComment

Re: Whirlpool gold model GS6SHEXNS00 Fridge
There is a post on that forum where he found a bad transistor near the burt trace, he used a MMBT5401 from digikey, he also replaced a 220uf cap. you may get lucky and that could fix it, control boards arn't cheapLast edited by R_J; 06-22-2017, 01:58 PM.Comment

Re: Whirlpool gold model GS6SHEXNS00 Fridge
Sorry guys i was out of town. I opened up the controller box that is next to the compressor, looked at the board and it looked like a small burn mark on the back. Here are some pictures. It looks like it is R34 but it also looks like the flat thin pin next to it. Dont know if i should just get a resistor and replace it. I dont even know which resistor i need. Plus when i installed the controller board back in the buzzing/clicking noise stopped.Comment

Re: Whirlpool gold model GS6SHEXNS00 Fridge
What is the part number for U5 ( switching IC chip ) that is probably the problem there is a small cap near that chip you will need to replace that in fact it would not hurt to just recap the hole board
You can try replacing the caps first and see if come back to life if not replace U5
I do not see any thing wrong with that resistor now it is hard to see if any of the solder joints look dull or cracking re solder then if they do or if they look question able redo them
I have been real busy at work with a machine that does not want to behave
So I have not have not had the time to check about the boards in this unitLast edited by sam_sam_sam; 06-27-2017, 06:26 PM.Comment

by CG2To be a bit more specific, I've got a 20-ish year old Liebherr that has just stopped working. This was quite a sophisticated beast for its time. It's a twin compressor model, and you set the desired temperatures of the fridge and freezer parts from a couple of little control panels above the door. It displays the actual temps on some eight segment displays there, flashing if it's working to get to where you want it. There's a control board with a microprocessor on it that read the temperature from a couple of sensors, switches the compressors on as necessary, and runs the display. There's also...
