    Datasheet Error: ST STP24NF10

    So I'm building a 12V-19V boost converter for automotive laptop use, and noticed the heatsink getting hotter than expected.
    I tuned my snubbering, and while I'm awaiting a better rectifier, it still seemed like too much temp rise. Snubbering it actually seemed to do little for this.

    I also suspected the MOSFET, since there are some inconsistencies in the datasheet.
    The heading implies the part is 5.5mohm, but other specs within the same datasheet suggest 55mohm, off by a factor of 10!

    So I connected a spare 24NF10 directly to a power supply, source to the negative binding post.
    It's actually the same 14V bench supply I'm using to test the laptop booster, so the gate was tied to the positive binding post via a test lead.
    I used my 4-ohm audio dummy load, so 3.5A went thru the drain. Instead of the expected ~18mV across the MOSFET, I measured 180mV! Yep, that's a ~50 milliohm part!

    Note: the Digikey summary for this part shows 60 milliohms.
    This correlates to what I measured, albeit under lower Ids.

    STMicro f**ked up their datasheet pdf, it doesn't agree with itself, Digikey is correct in this instance.

    TBH I'd be wary of any MOSFET claiming less than 10mΩ Rdson, now I have to check all of them. *sigh*

      To me looks like a datasheet typo for the RDS(on) spec. by a factor of 10!
      But power mosfet datasheets are all hype and misleading, exaggerating things. Some specs I've seen have a *theoretical others measurements with a tiny pulse which makes more hype. Yeah 26A with a cold die.
      You have to be really thorough when selecting them, manufacturers all give misleadingly low RDS(on) and unrealistically high ID.

      OP's part for 2006 really low RDS(on) comes with high capacitance so I check that and this part is strangely low at Ciss 870pF. So a small die.
      The graphs for RDS(on) Fig. 6 is 60-80mohm, and Fig. 10 shows it up +25% with temperature at 55°C, you have to factor in it's going to heat up.

        There is no such thing as a unicorn MOSFET, there is always something bad about each device. Whether or not you can live with the shortcoming is your job as the designer.

          I think it's wading through fake specs on the datasheet full of marketing hype.
          Most numbers are of the mosfet cold on an infinite heatsink, at 25°C for a tiny pulse "<300 μs pulses, duty cycle 0.5% max"
          Oh you got 120A out of that little part? WOW I'LL BUY IT.
          I find the SOA graph can say more in the end, but many are just a single pulse rated.

            I tried to use this method:

            Testing an N-channel MOSFET:

            Step 1: Discharge the Gate (turn off the MOSFET)
            Place the black probe (COM) on the Source (S) and the red probe on the Drain (D). The multimeter should show no continuity (high resistance or "OL" – open line).
            Then, touch the black probe to the Source (S) and the red probe to the Gate (G). This discharges any stored charge in the Gate, turning the MOSFET off.

            Step 2: Charge the Gate (turn on the MOSFET)
            Now, place the red probe on the Gate (G) and the black probe on the

            Hello everyone, I recently found this badcaps site and super Learn Electronics Repair youtube channel. And I wanted to learn how to troubleshoot power supplies and VGA cards and how to practice soldering, since I already have a properly defective piece of them. I am currently trying to solve two problems:

            I have a Gigabyte GV-RX460WF2OC-4GD type card. I managed to find the faulty MOSfet (AON6414A) on it, which I replaced. The card starts up, but after about half a minute, the MOSfet in the same position will be shorted again. Is it possible that the PWM controller driving the MOSfet...

            Help identifying mosfet on Razer Blade RZ09 (CH570_MB_NT)

            I have a Razer laptop (RZ09 MB# CH570_MB_NT) that has a shorted mosfet marked BND M03 E067 that I'm unable to find anywhere online. Does anyone either know what the part number is for this mosfet or have a schematic I can find it in?

            Backstory on the whole thing the laptop was plugged into a lamp at a hotel. The lamp got unplugged while it was charging and now the system won't power on anymore. I found the caps around this mosfet shorted and when I injected voltage into the caps the mosfet got hot and my bench psu was pulling 5A. Pretty sure this is all that's wrong with the laptop...

            Asus X712EA 3 volts after the first mosfet

            Hey guys,

            i have a asus motherboard here and as the title says after the first mosfet (in the picture) there is nothing more than 3.15v.
            I injected 19v and max. 1 amp at the charging port and there is not voltage drop or smth. It's just taking 19v and 1 milliamp.
            Then i tried to inject 19v and max 1amp after the current sensor and there it first takes 19v and 4 milliamps and after 2 seconds it is taking nothing (no current).
            I measured on the coils on board everything seems fine. Also the main power rail is not shorted (infinite resistance).
            Now i thought something...
