    Query on 24V supply

    Hi Folks

have a basic question on Fundamentals. I have a Power supply that has the following terminals +12V, 0V and -12V. Now normally i can get 12V by connecting between 0 and 12 and -12V by connecting load between 0 and -12V. I can also get 24V by connecting load between -12V and +12V.

    Now my queries

    1. Is the 24V i get by connecting load between -12V and +12V same as connecting the load between a 0V and 24V power supply. Is there anything to take care of when using one source against the other ?

    2. Now assuming there are 5A fuses between 0V and -12V and also between 0 and 12V. Now when i connect the load between -12V and 12V, would these fuses come into play?

    Thanks

is the + and - rated for the same current?

then you can get 24v, but you cant connect the psu to anything earthed

can i use this voltage/source on components that have specified range of 0-24V. For eg: if i am using an IC whose VCC pin range is 0-30V can i use this power source ?

yes, but as i said - no part of your circuit can connect the 0v(GND) rail to mains ground.

not unless you modify the psu first.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
              by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

              Assuming...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
              by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

coocaa 50S5G smart tv dropped voltage when connecting power supply to mainboard
              by Jembang
good day hoping someone can lend a hand, im repairing smart tv 50 inch, status when turning on back light is dim but you can see the tv logo then slowly fading out to black, i check the supply to tcon, i only read 5+v, must be 12v, i removed lvds cable and check voltage to mainboard turned on its also 5v, then i remove the cable mainboard to power supply, i read 12v in power supply, thinking that the problem is in the mainboard, coz theres 12v in power supply, i also check while turning on checking volts in main board 12v dropping to 5v, im just new repairing in TV, hope someone see my post t...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
              by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...
