    ESR Meter CAL.

Yellow all and happy new year.
I have the older Dick Smith ESR meter, the one that is black with the red led display. Is there any way I can calibrate this meter to make sure its accurate?
Seems I've been getting a lot of caps lately that reads the same value. Thanks!

    Re: ESR Meter CAL.

When the meter was purchased a 1% tolerance calibration resistor was included. 82 ohms I believe you turned on the meter zeroed out the probes and measured the resistor.

Then you turned the CAL pot until it read 82 ohms. Then you used another 5.6 ohm 5% tolerance resistor to check your work.

There are two POTs on the board though the other one is for the low battery threshold leave that one alone.

I get those low readings too on my blue it's because the caps are so low ESR they're almost out of the meters range like. 0.01 could be 0.010 but you don't have that extra digit.

This is a tool to sniff out bad caps whose ESR usually goes way up from decimals to whole numbers. So if you see something that low the caps are fine.

Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.
