Replace 8Mb bios chip with 32Mb possible ?

I need to replace a At26df081a-su, I already have a At26df321-su in my box - Is it possible to replace a 8 megabit chip with the 32 megabit ?

Will motherboard just use the first 8Mb of the 32Mb chip and contine to work as normal ?

    AT26DF081A datasheet vs AT26DF321 datasheet

Interesting, I've never looked into serial memory addressing, 2764/27512 Eproms was the shit when I was young.

    But looking into the pdf's

Pin 7 !HOLD is not in use on the 32Mbit chip
The HOLD pin is used to temporarily pause serial communication without deselecting or resetting the device...

But is it needed I don't know, motherboard schematics? properly not..

The serial addressing looks to be compatible and will only use the first 8Mbit as you suggest.

    Commands and Addressing:
Addressing of the device requires a total of three bytes of information to be sent, representing address bits A23 - A0.
Since the upper address limit of the AT26DF081A memory array is
0FFFFFh, address bits A23 - A20 are always ignored by the device.
