Is 74HC164D the same as mc74hc164adg?

Hello. I got a heat press machine in today. One of the chinese cheap ones. And the controller would not turn on. It just beeps contantly. Anyway, I found that the 5v rail was at 3v. After looking around it seems the 74HC164D that controls the LED numbers, has pins 7 and 8 shorted (~1ohm). Pin 8 is clock, and pin 7 is GND.

The clock pin is getting 5v from another controller HT46R47. Which gets warm (since it is leaking the 5v to gnd).

When I remove 74HC164D from the board the 5v rail goes back to normal voltage and the other chip does not get warm.

    Two questions:

    First:
The clock pin gives me 5v with a normal multimeter (I dont have an osciloscope). Would that be correct? Or is the clock line wrong? The board has a 4.0000 crystal connected to the HT46R47.

    Second:
Can I replace the 74HC764D with a MC74hc164adg? It is the only one I can find in Mexico. In the data sheet the pins are the same, but the max mhz rating is different.

Any help would be great. Thank you.

the letters at the end normally indicate the package type and how they are packed.
so make sure your getting the right package.

you can also use 74AHC series to replace 74HC series.
speed is unlikely to be a problem.

the clock pin should be switching between 5v and ground.

[LA-J891P] Warm cpu on 19v rail injection, is it fried ?
        by tamerelapute
        Hi,
I'm learning electronics(already have some basics) by fixing a FH52M LA-J891P rev1B. It come from an acer nitro 5. The charger was defaulting upon pluging. The 19V rail resistance is 0ohm (I believe that caps screw my measurement). When i inject 5A, I get a rail tension of 1.3V, and 0.8V vcccore.
Except the cpu, I cant feel anything getting warmer.
I believe that it is normal, because the cpu is "eating" half the power I'm imputing.
I dont know if the cpu is fried, because I did not remove the big capacitor on vcccore.
I believe that if the cpu was fried,...

Acer Nitro 5 LA-L181p power LED turns on by 5 secs (Short on PCH rail?)
        by Victor Moreira Silva
        Hello everyone,

I'm trying to repair my old Acer Nitro 5 (AN517-54-55T5). I've already bought a new laptop, so this is more of a learning project. For the experience, with no high expectations of success.

Well, my decice specs are the following:

        Model: Acer Nitro 5 AN517-54-55T5
        CPU: Intel Core i5-11400H
        GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
        Motherboard: GH51G LA-L181P Rev:1c

        The symptom:
When pressing the power button, the power LED lights up for about 5 seconds and then turns off. Initially, the issue was intermittent: sometimes...

General question about MacBook power rails for repair.
        by SarcasticOP
I am looking at an A2337 and found this for the order of power rails and what they do. Can this be confirmed before I dive into hunting down power rails that do not exist or are not neccisary?
        • PPBUS_G3H (12.6V-12.8V)
          • This is the main power rail that supplies power to the entire system. Check this rail first, as it must be present for other power rails to work.
        • PP3V42_G3H (3.42V)
          • This power rail is derived from PPBUS_G3H and is used to power the SMC (System Management Controller) and other essential circuits. It should be present if PPBUS_G3H is working correctly.
        • PPVRTC_G3H (3.3V)

Lenovo Thinkcentre tiny M90Q gen 1 - no 12V rail
        by lefetylorant
        Hello Everyone,

Long story short, I got this unit for very cheap.
I've started to experiment with it's BIOS, as I did before successfully with an M900. However my very bad quality SOIC clip broken while dumping of the biosof and it must have damaged something on the panel, because it does not turn on, and does exactly nothing when powered. The maximum voltage that could have affected something is the 3.3 or 5v from the IC clip, because the unit was not powered while the bios dumping was in progress.

        I've performed some measurements:
        - 20V rail perfectly...
