    Feasible diagnosis? Checking charging port

Hi guys I have an Apple iPod 5 touch that wasn't turning on even when plugged in. The battery and charging dock are inconveniently soldered to the logic board so doesn't make testing/replacing easy.

I unsoldered the 3 terminal battery connector and connected an external supply from bench dc supply set at 3.7v

Phone booted fine. I tried connecting the charger in but the charge symbol never displayed. Does it mean the port is bad or would using an external supply cause it not to work? iTunes didn't detect it either

I had to replace the home button which is part of the charging port cable. Wasn't as hard as I first though to do.
I know the charging ICs also go bad on these.

I know the iPhone 5 have issues with the charging ic. Can't find anything about the iPod 5 touch with similar issue?

Yeah they do suffer from them too. My daughter's did and i found she wasn't alone.
It was detected by iTunes though, just didn't charge properly.
Maybe go for a new cable/charging port first.
