    Pretty amazing stuff.

Hopefully this won't become dirt-cheap though. Otherwise, I can easily forsee it being used on every wrapper and package in every store. Or worse - those ads you get in the mail .

How about covering your ceiling with it? It might eliminate having to have lights all over the house. It could at least be a night light for hallways if nothing else.

what if it costs 100$ per sq-meter ?
it may have a useable lifespan of 1year.

            too many questions.

No price, but I think it said a lifespan of twenty years.

20 years continuous, or 20 years of 2 hours per day?
that's a labelling scam used on cfl lamps btw.

It compared it to a led bulb. So I guess 5 years max continuous?

You mean an attempted heatsink lol, copper trace doesn't work that well as we all know.

I remember old Popular Science magazine talking how EL panels were out and going to revolutionize your home.
Walls were to be covered with super thin EL lighting, and you could control the color by varying frequency. 50,000 hr lifetime.
I guess that didn't pan out.

I doubt they can do even that.
Maybe 20 years if you never use it.

That's why I'm still using good old incandescent bulbs here, along with halogen (mostly GU10 and the long ones). Have quite a stash of the incandescent bulbs. Don't think I'll run out for at least another 10 years. They seem to last quite a while.

Well, on that note, I wonder what the efficiency of EL wire is. I did a brief search online right now, and I found nothing... or at least not anything with numbers. Just statements that it is "very efficient" (whatever that means, lol ).

I remember from one of our general EE classes in university, we learned that incandescent bulb had only around 5% efficiency, while LED and fluorescent lightning around 10-15% max. So where that "very efficient" EL wire fits in, I have no clue.
