Resistor in charging circuit?

Hey all,

I picked up one of these 6 volt battery powered cars out of the trash for my boy awhile back.

Works, but of course the original battery was shot, and I had no easy charger.

Finally got around to buying a charger and battery, and went sort of 3rd party on it. Matched the battery, and bought a "power wheels" charger on ebay for it all.

Trying to solder everything up, so I can easily plug in to charge. I pulled the wiring off the old battery, which I assume is original. There is a small resistor in the circuit, but I'm not sure if I should use it , another resistor, or none at all.

Battery is a 6 volt sealed lead acid 4.5 amp hour

Charger shows 6 volt DC 7.2 Watts

that's a self-resetting poly-fuse.
use it.

Thanks STJ! Learned something new. I thought it looked like a resistor, so I wasn't sure. I might want to test it as well, because I was able to charge the old battery one time, and it worked for awhile (used a car battery charger). 2nd time, it seemed as if the battery wouldn't take a charge at all.

i'v never seen one fail, but feel free to meter it.

when you put it in, dont place it aganst anything that can melt or burn, they get real hot when they trip.
