MBR3045CT and SR3045LCT Schottky diode testing help.

    Hello experts,
Can anyone educate me on how to test MBR3045CT and SR3045LCT Schottky diodes? I'm totally a newbie in electronics, so forgive me if I have cheap tools. In my effort to repair a Gigabyte PSU, I stumbled upon the two diodes, which I suspect are leaky. I tested this with my two cheap multimeters and the newly bought LCR-T4 MC328, and I got confusing results. Below are my test results.

    Aneng ST182 Meter.

    Diode mode.
    MBR3045CT:
    Diode mode
    Pin 2-1 - 0.150v
    Pin 2-3 - 0.150v
Both show OL on reverse both shows OL on reverse

    SR3045LCT:
    Diode mode.
    Pin 2-1 - 0.096v
    Pin 2-3 - 0.096v
    Both show OL on reverse

    Alexan meter reads slightly lower
    MBR3045CT
    Pin 2-1 - 0.130v
    Pin 2-3 - 0.130v
    SR3045LCT:
    Pin 2-1 - 0.080v
    Pin 2-1 - 0.080v
    Both show OL on reverse

    Resistance reading.
    MBR3045CT:
Pin 2-1 Pin and 2-3 445K ohms. When I reverse the leads, I get 149K
pin 1-3 reads 140K both reverse and forward.

    SR3045LCT:
Pin 2-1 Pin and 2-3 223 ohms. When I reverse the leads, I get 15K and 16Kohms readings.
pin 1-3 reads 15K both reverse and forward.

I uploaded photo's of the ESR meter readings.

    they work.
schotky diodes are tricky to test because the voltage drop is very low with low test voltages and no real current.
some meters cant even give a stable reading!

if they fail they short out - so easy to see a bad one.

you may want to update the software in that tester btw.

Hmmm I needed to buy a BIOS flasher anyway. I received an Asus motherboard with a faulty BIOS update, and it became bricked. Thanks for the advice

Corsair RM 750 blown schottky diode near ES1DF
            by iyas132
Hi there, i am currently diagnosing my corsair rm750 that wont turn on, after a power trip.

Before the power trip, previously i need to push power button on my pc case quite a bit in order to turn the pc (and power supply on), however after the power trip now i cannot turn the pc on at all and i opened the power supply, and found out some of the component(s) are blown. (picture attached)

My current diagnostic is that the (schottky) diode marked "SF" in the 5Vsb circuit are blown and possibly the ES1DF diode too.

Can anyone help me identify the component...

            Query on preventing reverse flow
            by jinu_j
            Hi Folks

I need your help in a design problem. I have a power source that provide 3.3V, 5 V, +12V, and -12V. Each output is rated at 5A individually. Now i need to create a 4 way switch which will allow me to select the output I want. Unfortunately cannot find a 5 way rotary switch that can handle 5A. The ones i find are too big and used for main electricity board. Hence not suitable for my project.

So what i was thinking was to do the following
            - Use normal 5 way rotary switch rated for 500mA.
            - Connect the output of this to 4 channel 5V relay. So...

FCL30A015 diode reverse biased shows 35 Ohm, 0.05V forward. Is it gone?
            by caprider
            Hello,

I am troubleshooting a power supply.

When measuring a FCL30A015 diode it shows 35 Ohm when reverse biased and 0.05 forward voltage.

            See attached.

The datasheet does say "Extremely Low Forward Voltage Drop": https://www.alldatasheet.com/datashe...FCL30A015.html

            But 0.05V seems to low.

            Is it gone?

Should I perform some other test?...

Diode mode testing of motherboards question
            by Scruit
(I am self-taught in electronics over 20 years as a hobbyist, but I lack some of the fundamentals that folks who went to school for this would know... so please bear with me as I get deeper into this new hobby of retro computing...)

I'm familiar with diode mode in that it produces a small voltage between the leads and displays the the amount of voltage drop when the leads are connected... however....

Why do the board repair folks always put the positive lead to board ground and use the negative lead to probe the board itself? My intuition would be to put the negative...

Finding replacement diode iPad Pro 3rd gen A1701
            by asr
Hello, I am looking for help to replace a damaged diode. The tristar was replaced and a diode was damaged in the process. I have a picture of the diode but dont have an exact donor. I mostly have macbooks for donors and only a few ipad and iphone boards. Diode part number: DSF01S30SCAP
Im not sure where to find the ipad board number. Anybody have an idea where else this diode is used on other boards? Thanks....
