Advice sought - Selector switch knob repair

    Hello Everyone,

I am seeking to repair a knob on an old (circa 1971) Panasonic clock radio (a model RC-6900). The good news is that I have the small, easily lost knob. The bad news is that the knob has come off a slotted post and I need to re-attach it in such a way that I won't have to worry about it coming loose again.

Here is a picture of the bare slotted post (if I have the term right) the knob should be attached to:

As you can see, this is an Old School selector switch, which means it's pretty stiff. Put another way: the knob has to fit very snugly on the post in order for it to work properly over the long term. Any play in the fit and I risk the knob coming loose again over time (or breaking off altogether).

As for the knob itself, here is a picture of the interior:

The slot you see is 1mm thick, 5mm high, and 9mm in depth.

My question is: does anyone know of a small piece of metal something-or-other approximately that size that I could work with a file so that it forms a tight friction fit?

Apart from manually filing down a small piece of metal to get it to fit tightly in that slot, I have no idea how to effect this repair in such a way so as not to damage the knob. However, if you, the person reading this, do have an idea, I am all ears.

Long story short, I am hoping this is something I can pull off with a file, a small bit of metal, and some patience - I do not have access to a Dremel or any sort of power tool to help speed things along and my budget for this, all told, is about $20 (give or take). However, what I lack in tools I can make up for in time and I don't mind spending a day or three patiently filing down a bit of metal if that's what it takes.

    Any suggestions?

Click image for larger version Name:	PANASONIC RC-6900 clip.jpg Views:	0 Size:	317.9 KB ID:	3313183 There is a small spring steel clip that is missing it fits in the knob slot and goes between the split in the shaft, something like this. You could try using a piece of stiff plastic to make it as well

And or use hot glue to keep it in place hopefully you do not need to remove it for some reason later down the road because of some kind of repair

I usually see a knob like that with a small steel pin in that slot. It ends up in the shaft slot, splaying it enough so the knob grabs tight.
If it fell out and vanished, check the knob for cracks. The pin is hollow, it's like a keyway or something. I would find the exact diameter rod and cut a short piece. Coathanger is a bit too big I think.
Hobby store will have what you need.

          Micro Momentary Push Switch?
          by Natob82
Great to be here! I'm a newbie here trying to find a "micro", momentary push switch to repair a Sony "clamshell" video walkman. This micro switch has long since discontinued by Sony, however I hope there are third-party switches of the same size and functionality that I might be able to source to play the same role. The purpose of this switch is to tell the video walkman that the user has activated the mechanical tape eject button, turning that physical action into an electronic signal that tells the tape transport mechanism to open so one can load or eject a video tape. I...

NEC TurboExpress On/Off Power Switch Replacement Help
          by grimacelord
          Hello,

I've been working on a NEC TurboExpress and I accidentally got the plastic inside the power ON/OFF switch too hot while doing other repairs and melted it. At first, it would still power on when sliding the switch, but you had to really press inward while sliding to get it to work.

I removed the switch component and tried to gently melt the plastic back so it would work more reliably and all I managed to do was make it worse.

I need to find a replacement On/OFF switch for this, but having some trouble figuring out which kind of switch I need....

Help making a switch work the opposite way with a relay
          by SluggerB
I have a very small float switch, I'm using in a very small tank. It only fits in one way. Link https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Switch.../dp/B07DZ1J2GB

I want the switch to be open when the water is high, and closed when the water is low. Unfortunately it works the opposite. And since this switch is designed to be underwater, it's all sealed up, there is no taking it apart or hacking it up.

It will be driving a water pump, basic idea, when the water is low, switch closes, which turns on water pump, when enough water is in the tank, float switch floats,...

Dell AL440LX power on switch circuit help required
          by Powderfanupnorf
Hi Everyone. First official post so fingers crossed I conform and also manage to get photos to work.

So I am requesting some help from anyone who happens to have one of these motherboards to hand and perhaps a multimeter.

My board has a single row of header pins for all the front panel stuff (have seen others where they are grouped together differently so thats no help) and the two pins for the power on switch had been previously repaired and I am trying to make a better repair. There looks to be pad and trace damage and im happy to relocate the header pin/pins to...
