The potential issue with tax cuts offering a 10 year warranty is that the manufacturer may not be in business for 10 years. I have seen my local government hand out tax breaks to businesses who "promise" to be a long term partner (5 to 10 years) only to bail out at the first sign of trouble. Of course, you could make the tax cuts yearly/retroactive, etc.

Perhaps the best way to insure this is to require the manufacturer to purchase liability insurance which would cover this.

You know what I'd like to see? an "HQ" line of electronics by any well known name brand. You'd see the "HQ" on it and know it was well made. Naturally they'd cost more, but for the money you'd be getting an overbuilt device, with the best capacitors, parts rated at least 2x higher then required.

It would be heavy like a tank, and built like one, and it would be running 20 years from now.

That "used" to be the premium line... I mean a $300 plasma TV you might expect the odd dodgy cap but a $1,500 one? Screw that!

I think the same thing, since 1998, electronics is full of planned obsolescence
