circuit board protectant

Hi guys,

I'm working on a treadmill. A bug made a "nest" on the board and the board fried there. I'm thinking this 10 year old board had a protectant originally.
I have a new one on theway. I am new to the forum and tried the search box,
no mention anywhere so here comes:
1. I use Rem-oil's dry teflon on my guns. I always look down before I am going to a range ect and never seen anything ever made a nest or evidence anything even crawed in there. What will I use to protect any of my circuit boards?
2. I would like to use something thats safe for the environment.
3. I would like to protect my other electonics. Is a spray do-able?

Usually you spray conformal coating on a pcb for protection. Masking tape (cover) all connectors before spraying. You can spray both sides and protect the parts, as well as the traces.

Bugs like warm spots on PCB's. I hear fire ants cause electrical junction box shorts and are a real pest. You might look at diatomaceous earth powder, it's a good natural pesticide from Walmart or HomeDepot. But any powder on the pcb will eventually fall off, esp. on a treadmill.
