    250VAC Run Motor Capacitor

    I know what capacitors do, in theory, but I do not have a real-world/application knowledge of (motor) run capacitors.

    I am replacing a 10uF +/- 5% 250VAC (motor run) capacitor that popped in my bench grinder. Man, did that bang scare me! I found, in my box of capacitors, the following new cap: 12.5uF +/- 5% 250VAC (Motor)
    (They are both big, cylindrical types, roughly 30mm diameter x 70mm height...roughly the size of the size D batteries)

    Can I use it? Is there a general rule-of-thumb to remember for such?

    The old one just has the specs (I listed) & model #: CBB25
    (The only CBB25's I was able to find on the web were definitely different...miniscule capacitance & box-type.)

      The general rule is replace with same uF value and equal or higher voltage rating. The 12.5uF will probably work fine but may make the motor run a bit hotter. You don't necessarily need the same part #, just a typical 10uF film cap in a size you can mange to strap on where it goes, and of course the right terminal type of you don't want to rig new connectors.

      Personally if the bench grinder isn't a high end/expensive model, I'd use the 12.5uF you already have, but ideally it should be another 10uF.

              You might also enquire at HVAC supply houses locally, 10uF motor caps are fairly common in HVAC systems though usually in 450V value, which of course will be physically larger. I was really surprised that I found one locally for only $8 or so the last time one crapped out on my A/C, and even more surprised when the guy who sold it to me turned out to be an old friend I hadn't seen in over 20 years.

                      I encountered my first dead motor run capacitor at a customer this week.
                      For some fields I guess it is a very common occurrence but the usual way for industrial machines here is to use 3-phase motors.
                      (Unless a servo motor makes more sense that is).
                      But for some reason this 3-phase machine uses a 1-phase motor for its liquid coolant pump.
                      The pump would run but sometimes trip the 10A breaker.
                      I monitored it starting and stopping for over an hour until it finally stopped in a specific spot between its windings:

                      Hi people, I hope this is the correct spot to post this, I'm new to the forum.

                      I have an RTX 3080 Founders Edition which has a burnt up capacitor (it was in parallel with another capacitor which appears damaged too), so I am hoping to be able to identify the capacitor values and order replacements.

                      I hope these photos make it clear which component I am referring to:
                      (yes, the soldering is a bit botched from removing the blown one, I know)

                      I replaced some capacitor which is located on optical pickup pcb which is shown in the table below(PCB #2).Because it have been out of order.
                      Now,It works very well,But I just have found that all caps (6svpc100my and other part number as well) ,which is shown in the table below, has ultra-high ripple current spec.
                      It is not able to obtain any capacitor which can be a substitute for this ultra-high ripple current nichicon capacitor.
                      So I replaced it with samxon and rubycon's general capacitor(GP,YXA series).
                      I know that these capacitor will not last as long as nichicon capacitor...

                      I desoldered samwha NF capacitor(50v 5.6uf) from PCB circuit of 29inch CRT TV which have symptoms of no display after I heard sound of inrush of current to TV whenever I switch on this television.
                      I measured ESR value of this non-polarized capacitor(samwha NF capacitor 50v 5.6uf) by means of MESR-100 ESR meter and It displayed 0.3 ohm

                      And When I measured its capacitance with digital multimeter and LCR-T4 Mega328 meter, It displayed 10uf from DMM and 8uf from LCR-T4 meter.

                      Hi,

                      i am asking for some Help.
                      I have one of these Nescafe Aeroccino (Milk Frother) things with a bad motor.
                      The Motor didn´t start anymore and internet is full of users just swapping the motor for a Mabuchi RF-500TB-12560.
                      So i got a few of these from Banggood.

                      I swapped the motor and now i have a new fault condition.

                      In a working Frother you would press the start button, it will light red and work for a few minutes.
                      If you press longer it will light blue and just mixup the milk.

                      With the new Motor it just starts...
