Almost there, finding the right cap for PSU.

Hi people, well after many days of researching, having known nothing about capacitors I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm replacing 2 caps in my TV psu unit but still a little confused about the ripple values and generally a bit confused.

Here's what the reading is on the caps I'm replacing and the make (I think).

    (M)
    HC CE(M)
    105 C
    270UF
    400V
    Japan

Now I have no idea what the correct ripple value should be on the replacement cap and what other values are important, from what I understand, getting a caps with a high ripple value is good.

Is there anything else I should consider to be very impotent why buying replacement caps.

I just need a little more info (I hope) before ordering.

Any advise will be most appreciated. Jon.

Hi - is there some reason you are replacing this particular cap - bulging/damaged/leaking? Japanese caps are usually pretty good and this I am guessing is a Large cap which normally dont need replacing.
A picture of it would help, though I guess someone will be along who can recognise it from the info given. If the (M) is a logo it may be instantly recognised.
If you want to match the ESR and ripple values then you must identify the cap
get the data sheet then match or better the values with the cap you buy as
one the same may not be available. With large caps esr is not always stated
    - they are under less pressure than middle range caps so it is not so important.
Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

Hi, yes I think the M could be the logo it's in a square box.

I've just opened a thread in the PSU section, the problem I'm having is with my TV psu it's making a clicking noise under load (when brightness, colour etc is turned up) fine other wise

Here's a link to another thread, the guy over there recommended changing these 2 caps, I have to say they look fine to me as do all of the caps on the board, the noise is coming from the inductor which is odd as it has no moving parts, take a peek if you have time I'm still a little on the fence about it:http://www.tv.quuq.org/forum/index.php?topic=6669.0

Thanks again Tom, after looking at my posts do you think it's likely the PSU has a dodgy inductor?. I posted a reply..basically asking the best way to go about Varnishing the thing.
