TRIAC BTA12 - Your thoughts, Please!!!

    Hello,

Have a TRIAC, ID: BTA12. Here is the URL for the datasheet:

    http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/data...A12-600C.shtml

The package is a TO-220AB Insulated, in other words it is packaged the same way as most HOTs. The only difference between HOTs and TRIACS is that , leg 1 from the left is Anode 1, leg 2, the middle leg is Anode 2, and leg 3 is the Gate.

On connecting a digital multimeter regardless of polarity between Anode 1 and Gate, the resistance is ~45 Ohms.

There is no reading between Anode 2 and Gate, infinite resistance, regardless of polarity.

Also, no reading between Anode 1 and Anode 2 regardless of polarity.

Now, if either positive or negative polarity is applied to Anode 1 and Anode 2 and the Gate is shorted to Anode 2, the multimeter reads ~45 Ohms.

Upon disconnecting the Gate from Anode 2, again the reading becomes infinite while the leads of the multimeter are in contact with Anode 1 and Anode 2.

    The question is:

Should the reading continue to be ~45 Ohms after disconnecting the Gate from Anode 2, at least this what the theory tells me on testing Triacs, ( the resistance should continue , in this case, to be ~45 Ohms, provided the multimeter leads are in contact the Anode 1 and Anode 2) or

is the Triac faulty? and the reasons why.

    Sincerely

      Hello kc8adu,

Have a read at this article: http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/data...A12-600C.shtml

and compare the info with respect to the info given on testing Triacs in the URL you provided.

Asus X532FL 3.2V at source and gate
        by Lvsitano
I am having some trouble with troubleshooting a Asus X532FL rev 2.0 motherboard, which does not power on. So at the first MOSFET, I am getting 19V at the drain, and then 3.2V on both gate and source (compared with ground). Of course, the 2nd MOSFET's source will have 3.2v at source.

        First MOSFET is a QM3056M6 and 2nd MOSFET is a QM0930M3

I already checked first MOSFET and source and gate are not shorted (drain with source not shorted either). Also I have 1.7V at the LDO rail (measured at the keyboard connector, as the power button is on the keyboard).

        First...

        TRIAC circuit
        by прямо
Anyone is familiar with a TRIAC circuit?

I came across this schematic, and I built it, but I can't seem to figure it out why I'm getting a low AC voltage output at the TRIAC terminals.

With 230V AC hot side at the TRIAC MT2, I measured 60V AC between MT1 and neutral side when the comparator output LED indicator is on, and 20V AC when it is off.

Same result if 230V AC hot side is at MT1, and I measured between MT2 and neutral side.

My heating element doesn't work with 60V AC. It's not even getting hot and the thermocouple amplifier output is a...

        Macbook Dust-Gate Preventive Cleaning
        by howardc64
Just did this on my 2021 13" MBP M1. Dust-Gate design flaw still present. Depending on cleanliness of the operation environment (often eating while using MB is probably the worst). Periodic cleaning is probably warranted.

Note this is quite challenging effort. One misstep will damage the LCD flex and render it useless. So take it to someone more experienced if uncertain.

        triac phase control 0-100%
        by harp
Trying to understand which properties of circuit affect triac phase range, is it possible to control near whole period, or it have some limitations - on net found a couple circuit, that claims almost full control, but in the past I build some simple circuit and remember that it do only half of control over triac?...

Omega MML200 Coutant Lambda PSU repair
        by Crystaleyes
        Hi all.

Recently I picked up a vintage HP 37717B communications analyzer which uses one of these MML200 Coutant power supplies. Needless to say the PSU is not working, and surprisingly there is apparently nothing available on the web regarding repairing one of these. No stories, no schematics, zilch!
There are however many companies offering repair 'services', however I don't have the luxury of sending it off, so am intending to do the repair myself.

I admit right now that I am no expert on smps repair, although I do have a grasp on the principle of the general...
