Have i got the right Cap

Hello, this is my first post so ill try and cram as much info in as possible

I am a complete noob to all this.

A capacitor on a sewing machine power board has blown, it was a nichicon PT(m) with a 250v/150uf rating.

    i have bought a capacitor its a nichicon VZ(m) with a 250V/150uf rating.

can i use this to replace the other ???

As far as I know, there's no 150uF value in the VZ series.

    VZ:

    PT:

So you may have a fake or some old capacitor that's no longer listed in the new pdf files.

Other than that... generally these high voltage/low uf ones don't fail so often and don't have such hard to match specifications and they don't run at high frequencies, so it should be ok.

I don't know what the say... the ones on the eBay picture are supposed to be made in 2009, based on the code on them. They could be custom made for a company but I doubt it.

        Compare to these : http://i.imgur.com/UYuAV.jpg

The nichicon font is a bit bolder and maybe less tall, letters and number are closer together, the top is usually a + while on the picture it looks more like a Y... but it could be different on the ones rated for higher voltage due to much more room to print stuff.

PS. you can go for the ones rated for 400v or something between 250v-400v, if they're easier to find at low price.

the ebay ones are fakes. Nichicons with triangle vents on top? no way.
Also showing a totally generic bag that doesn't look like what nichicon uses at all.

if it has to be ebay..
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/250743625793 (if it fits.. snap in type)
          http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/120783888535 (same as above)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/300532998401 (??? generic pic.. who knows what you'll get, but at least it's a normal radial cap)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/290451400827 (short leads. will not work if cap lays parallel to the board)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/300574108333 (if you have too much money on hand)

otherwise, check electronics stores listed in the "where can i get replacement capacitors" thread

          United Kingdom - Digikey - http://uk.digikey.com/
          United Kingdom - Farnell - http://uk.farnell.com/
          United Kingdom - RS Components - http://rswww.com/

keep the uF the same, voltage the same or higher (350-450V is easier to get, but check the can size!)
