Has anyone actually made a capacitor?

I don't mean one of those jar ones, or the ones where you make a massive thing using cling-film and it ends up storing 1pF or something. I mean an actual canister shaped one. Now I know these usually require big machines and great precision but I was wondering if anyone made one as proof of concept.

Come on, even a homemade one is better than a GSC.

That wasn't proper science though, that was just bellendery...

The manufacturers state the basic science behind it... The ridges in the aluminium relate to the voltage, and the electrolyte defines the characteristics... But they don't give you any specifics, so I imagine that it would take a good bit of reverse-engineering to make one.
"We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed [sic]. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, 'Save me!' He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them."

It'd be quite cool to make a basic one in the same shape (but bigger) and refine it from there. But I think the main problem would be longevity from impurities in the metal as well as dust introduced in the inevitably non-clean room environment.
