It seems a little awkward to desolder the joints where the lines meet the PCB because the limited space. And if I desolder the joint at the socket, I worried that all the X and Y filter caps soldered to the same joint will fall off and it would be a bitch to put back on. How do the pro's usually handle this??
I usually snip them at the AC socket end then clean tin and prep them with the PCB out.
Also desolder, clean, tin and prep the pins on the back side of the socket with the PCB out.

The legs of the caps should be wrapped around the pins.
That's enough to hold them in place while you resolder the wires.

    Just try it...
The worse that can happen is you end up with a bad PSU,,,
,,, which is what you already have.
    Make sense?

nice. I'll give it a try when I my caps get in. Thanks again everyone your help, patience, and bearing with me (especially PCBONEZ for your continued support)! I've learned so much. Now all I need to work on is getting all the glue off the caps and figuring out which solder joints go with each cap (the entire PCB back just looks like a glob of solder. : )

        Cyberpower 1500AVR UPS repair
        by quickname
I'd like to start out by thanking this forum for providing the info to be able to repair my 15 year old CP1500AVRLCD UPS. Here is all the info I gathered during my trouble-shooting and re-capping.

Like clockwork, I've had to replace the SLA batteries every 4 years. It was about that time and the UPS was acting like it needed new batteries... randomly shutting off with AC present, not being able to charge fully, and poor runtime when AC was removed. So, I replaced the batteries but noticed that it was not charging properly.

I decided to verify that the batteries were...

        Genelec 8020C Bad capacitor
        by TomGJ
Hi All, So I have two Genelec 8020Cs that are about 10 years old, one of them stopped switching on. I took it apart, fuse was blown, and I've traced the short to one of the two large capacitors on the circuit board.

Now from looking at the Capacitors, they seem to be from Samwha's SD Series with the following specs: 3300uf, 35v, 85C, 25 x 16 mm Radial.

The problem is, I can't find any capacitor from Samwha's SD Datasheet that matches these specs. The closest is 3300uf, 35v, 85c but 31.5 x 16mm, with a max ripple current of 2.5A. I'm guessing the 25mm is custom made for...

Is it no harm to replace with capacitor without ripple current rating?
        by chth96
When I tried to repair LG 29 inch CRT TV, I found that the ESR value of samyoung SMS capacitor(160v 2.2uf), which is very close to D1879 transistor, is 6 ohm.

Judging from above ESR Meter Table,I think It is necessary to replace this sms capacitor. So I visited local electronics shop, and I purchased 160v 2.2uf rubycon YK capacitor.
But when I browse through rubycon YK datasheet,I found that there is no ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf specification. But On the contrary, I found 39 mA ripple current rating for 160v 2.2uf SMS capacitor.
        Rubycon YK DataSheet (b...

What are typical ripple voltages on a laptop motherboard?
        by Antonynl
I have here a HP pavilion hp 15-cs2975nd with a 1.095v power supply that is driven by a FDMF3035. I do see about 80mV of ripple on my scope. I searched through the datasheet to find possible values of the ripple but I don't understand the datasheet well enough.

        So I have two questions:
        1) what is the typical ripple voltages of gpu/cpu on a laptop or pc mobo?
        2) what would be the max ripple of a FDMF3035 that drives an output of 1.095V?

Would be nice to have a rule of thumb of say a percentage of the supply voltage to be an acceptable ripple voltage....

        Recapping Mean Well MWP-606
        by Y. Signal
Hello, I have this arcade power supply that I'd like to recap for maximum reliability and lifetime since I have found some Capxon and Jamicon capacitors:
        • Capxon GL 10x25 1000uf 16V Ripple: 1180 Impedance: 0.05ohm // Chemi-con KY 1000uf 16V Ripple: 1400 Impedance: 0.046ohm
        • Capxon GL 10x12.5 470uf 16V Ripple: 722 Impedance: 0.095ohm
        • Capxon GS 10x15 22uf 50V 85ÂșC Ripple: 100
        • Capxon KM 47uf 50V Ripple: 125
        • Jamicon TK 1uf 50V Ripple: 12
        • Jamicon TK 4.7uf 50V Ripple: 36

I have another PSU (same model) that uses Chemi-con KY instead of Capxon GL, and since Panasonic FC are very...
