    Should I be worried?

so I was recapping when I noticed this damage and there's no way my iron could have come in contact with that IC chip.

I don't have the display to test it, since it's at a friend's house.

    What do you guys think?

        Re: Should I be worried?

Ok because I was like What the F! I was so careful not to angle my iron in that direction.

My friend is out of town so I won't be able to test it for few days.

I did cut those leads, but then I was more worried about the chip then the leads. I've cut them again.

Perhaps the component has been damaged by something rubbing against it in it's housing?

I guess the only way to tell for sure is to try the board and see if it works, however if the board connects to something that is NOT expendable, I'd perhaps pull the component from the board and test it. Or even just replace it just to be on the safe side.

I agree. Looks like abrasion damage.
Was probably there before you started.
Doesn't look like enough damage to cause a problem.

As long as there's not a raised bubble in the package which would signify that the die overheated which would cause it to short or go open circuit you're fine.

Agree on the manufacturing mechanical damage. Note pin 2 is twisted a bit also. That's factory.

I tested the monitor today, it working fine, no problems. My recap was successful. This is the fifth display I've successfully recapped.
