My U1253B failed after about 4 years with virtually no display left at all. So went online & bought what I was told was a replacement, however
it didn't work properly and some of the digits were off the side of the screen 🤬
Anyway after that I just boxed the thing up ready to sell as parts. Luckily I forgot about the meter only noticing it again in a drawer about 8 months later. So before posting it for sale on eBay I had a
look around for any new options, and to my surprise there were replacements showing up in the search 😀 I semi-reluctantly bought one.....

Re: Toshiba 32BV500B fault - Vestel 17PW26-4
Thanks vince.. I've actually got hardware for flashing IC's.. Just not the appropriate SOIC8 style adaptors.. Although I guess I could wire it dead bug style with some
twisted pair wire etc. Getting the file is the biggest hurdle though unless someone has it or could pull it from a good chip.
I did try freezing & heating a few of the IC's on the PSU and also the mainboard (which is a 17MB45M-3)... but it made no difference at all. To be
honest I didn't expect it to as nothing was getting hot really.. The...

Re: Toshiba 32BV500B fault - Vestel 17PW26-4
Ah ok.. Thanks for that tom.. That's it then, end of the road! I can swap the SMD stuff no problem.. but I've just not got the appropriate kit for flashing SOIC8 FW... Even if I had the file.
Good timing though.. I've just picked up another PSU on eBay for £12.. At that price even if It doesn't work I'll keep the working parts for spares
Thanks all for your help...

Re: Toshiba 32BV500B fault - Vestel 17PW26-4
I'm always open to any more ideas or suggestions .. I've not given up yet
I'm just hoping that when the source legs were blown off trannies Q813 and Q814 that the pulse didn't get through to the mainboard too
I could just spend £60 and get two second-hand eBay boards but that's not how I like to do things... Well not until all possible options are exhausted anyway ...

Re: Toshiba 32BV500B fault - Vestel 17PW26-4
That's what I thought dickb.. But with mine setup like that on the bench my 5v rail is all over the show.
I also have to jump a separate pair of pins that connect to a factory rear panel switch..

I've actually replaced IC806 too.. And on mine pin 5,6,7 & 8 in relation to gnd are open loop (OL.)...

Re: Toshiba 32BV500B fault - Vestel 17PW26-4
Ok... The psu and motherboard are now in the tv again and connected together...The tv is connected to mains and the white front LED is flashing away..
5v is stable now at 5.049v...

Re: Toshiba 32BV500B fault - Vestel 17PW26-4
I can't switch to stby as such as I have no remote for this tv.. I was using the front panel to turn it on initially. The tv was given to me to try and fix as it was totally dead.
When I got it I found that D893 had failed along with transistors Q813 & Q814 I replaced those and got some life into the psu again.. but after 30 seconds of being pleased with my repair it blew the source legs off transistors Q813 & Q814....

Re: Toshiba 32BV500B fault - Vestel 17PW26-4
Only when I apply power to the PSU it sounds like the PFC area is ticking a couple of times a second.. the ticking does not seem consistently timed though.. I also noticed that the ticking seemed
to stop when I was measuring R815 adjacent to IC802 (FAN7529) ... IC802 has been replaced.
With the oscilloscope attached to the AC side of the PSU I can see the pulses created by this ticking in the waveform....Last edited by orbiter; 03-16-2017, 04:09 PM.

Re: Toshiba 32BV500B fault - Vestel 17PW26-4
Hi.. PL815 is just the pin header connector on the psu that connects to an on/off switch at the back of the tv....

Re: Toshiba 32BV500B fault - Vestel 17PW26-4
Hi.. 5v rail is dropping to about 2.7v seemingly everytime the psu tries to start? (Better pics below) .. Yes 12/24v was shorted to gnd
Did you see my voltage chart above dickbarton? I posted immediately when you last replied so not sure if you saw it.

Re: Toshiba 32BV500B fault - Vestel 17PW26-4
Just me being stupid there... I just needed to short the main switch PL815. The voltages albeit the wrong ones show up after that and I can here the psu clicking. I guess PFC is trying to kick it on?
I got real problems though.. Here's my 3.3 & 5v rails too.. The 3.3v looks ok however there's still a light drop seemingly as the PSU tries to start.. But the 5v is all over the show dropping to 2.7 volts each time I assume start up attempts are made. So it seems now I've got a dodgy 5v rail AND no 12/24v

Re: Toshiba 32BV500B fault - Vestel 17PW26-4
No mate.. Sorry for confusion.. Mainboard was connected when I got these voltages... I just wasn't sure if MB needed to be hooked-up as I would have liked to test the PSU separately the bench but it seems best if everything is connected. Thanks though
C878 is good. Voltages are just as in my previous post even if STBY is gnd'd ...

Re: Toshiba 32BV500B fault - Vestel 17PW26-4
Still no go fellas... New uf5404 fitted but made no difference. I've also changed the soic8 FAN IC on the smd side of the PCB and as far as I'm aware have checked almost everything else too. In some cases removing many components to test them were necessary.
Any more ideas on this please guys?.
Thanks

Re: Toshiba 32BV500B fault - Vestel 17PW26-4
Your right vince 1n5408 is higher spec but far slower.. Wonder if that could be the problem.

Looking at the diodes specs though a 1N5408 should be fine?
