    Li Ion batteries

If you look at a battery ,say from a mobile phone or a sat nav there are three terminals, one is positive and one is negative. What is the other connection for ? Usually this is the center connection.
There is an impedance from this connection to the negative terminal, the only conclusion I can make is this other terminal is used to monitor or control ,perhaps charging rate or core temperature of the cells.

I do know on my Dell laptop there are three connections on the power socket, the center pin determins the type of power supply connected.

Do any readers know or have any info on this battery technology?

    Re: Li Ion batteries

On 3.7V batteries, the third terminal is usually the thermal sensor.
With 7.4V batteries having three terminals, the third terminal is usually the middle of the 2-cell stack, to determine if both cells are charged evenly.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

      Cyberpower cps1500avr not charging batteries

      Hello, all.

      Cyberpower Battery Backup Unit.

I bought two new ML18-12 batteries through Amazon (They have already refunded my money for the two batteries as we thought the batteries might have been bad.)
When I got them in, they were not fully charged. I connected them to the UPS and waited 24 hours before connecting any networking equipment.
In parallel, they read 24v, but within 24 hours, the meter on the front of the unit dropped from 4 to 3 bars on the battery charge indicator.
Checking the voltage, it was down to 22v.
      I quickly removed everything...

Ebike BMS - Has anyone ever bridged the P- with the B- ?
      by Crystaleyes
Seeking a break from dodgy Chinese welders, I thought I'd get on with something else more straightforward... Boy was I wrong!

A friend gave me his e-bike battery and charger to have a look at.

      It's a 36v 15a 10 cell system which has a 42v charger.

The charger is the type which shows a red LED whilst charging and a green when charged. The charger was displaying only green.
Measuring the battery voltage on the output read 36v. Only when any kind of load was connected, the voltage dropped to zero.
Opening the unit up, bypassing the BMS...

Lithium 12v tool battery charger... no negative connection?
      by budwich
I have a drill and battery but no charger so I bought a "universal charger" 120ac in ... 12vdc out (not really universal in lithium world). Anyway it has three contacts, positive, negative and "T" (temperature sensor). I connected those contacts to the contacts on the battery. No charging happened and only the status light is on (green solid) which the label indicates "100% charged".... but the battery isn't near that at around 9v and dying. There doesn't appear to be any difference whether the battery is connected or not. I got suspicious and pulled the...

Where do repair shops buy MB replacement batteries?
      by howardc64
Order my parts from mobilesentrix.com and iPhone batteries have been excellent. Recently got 3x bad A1534 (2015) batteries. All would work until ~30-40+% and drop to < 10% instantly. Typical sign of cheap batteries.

Perhaps the less popular A1534 model's aftermarket batteries are more source limited. Just find it surprising quality from mobilesentrix (usually fairly high quality aftermarket parts) have been so poor.

BTW, this isn't the only defective parts I've had from mobilesentrix. Amongst others including iPad Air touch screen and A1989 touch bar (display was...

Fixing the Charge Circuit of the Batteries of the DC Motor
      by Astonished
      Hi friends of electronics

What you see in the video and pictures attached is the circuit for charging the batteries of a DC motor.

The problem is that this circuit cannot charge the batteries (3 1800mAH NiMH batteries) any more. When the circuit was OK, its green LEDs lit up one at a time to show that the batteries have charged more. But now that the circuit is flawed, LEDs light up as you see in the video and at the same time successive beeps are heard.

Please help me fix this circuit.
