Finally managed to find some time (and will) to replace my "temporary" ghetto full bridge rectifier, removed the diodes, soldered the new one (of course according to its polarity), powered the unit and after few pops the magic smoke escaped. Right, must have done something wrong, install a new one, check for shorts and bad regulators.. power on.. and again the familiar popping sound, but this time managed to cut the power before the magic smoke had escaped. After several hours of wild goose chase I found that the polarity of some of the brand new rectifiers was reversed.. so just keep in mind that everything is possible.
Aaand that is why I have trust issues..

by m1ch43lzmHi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic... -
by grettiI have a MSI Z370-A Pro. The board does not reboot or shut down from the Windows recovery console. USB communications stop and the status light on USB 1 stays on and does not blink. I have programmed a new BIOS with a CH341A programmer already, swapped RAM, PSU, CPU. The board will power off when the power button is held and resets when the reset switch is pressed, but it will not react to the reset switch if already told by software to shut down or restart. The board will reboot from BIOS after a save and exit command.
The MSI BIOS included the ME firmware for the board. The size... -
by SoulFreezeHi, trying to troubleshoot some problems with this laptop I just finished repairing which had power issues (Burnt Buck converter - SY8883DFC shorted to ground).
After repairing the above issue, I realized the following remaining problem,
Sound only comes from bottom speakers, top palmrest speakers don't work. Neither does the headphone jack (static/buzzing).
The computer recognizes headphones are connected and displays a popup in windows
Sometimes, the computer will boot up and the sound will be working fine. However, if I run intensive programs and the computer... -
by NagyeszI have a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH, which has started exhibiting the well-known issues of the Lenovo IdeaPad 3.
All stress tests run perfectly, and there are no performance issues. However, the solder joints are almost certainly starting to fail. If the top two screws on the back are not screwed in, moving the screen results in a BSOD or, in some cases, a slight artifact and freeze. This is a 2023 notebook..
How can I extend its lifespan? Could reflow help?
It has ryzen 5 5500h, rtx 2050, no soldered ram.
Example of the artifacts:
