    Basic electronic knowledge resources

    Hey all,
I've got a few XBOX power problems but don't know much about anything concerning electronics troubleshooting outside of replacing caps. Instead of coming on here and wasting people's time being confused when they say check rectifier, transistor, resistor, etc or whatever it may be and then having to ask "what is that?", I wanted to learn and build up a knowledge base first so I'm not completely clueless and can apply the good advice people give without confusing the situation more by not knowing what i am doing.
Is there a good thread or source, either on this wonderful site or another site, that teaches the noobest of noobs the basic power supply and mobo components, their functions, and how to test them with a simple DMM? That way I can contribute to solving my own problems.

    Thanks!

watch diode gone wild videos on YT - he will teach you more about switching psu's than the rest of the web combined!

are you talking original xboxes or 360's or newer?
the microsoft naming causes a lot of confusion

Diode gone wild is so detailed that easy can confuse beginers

You have to learn basic to can follow sugestions:

Basic identification of elements, and some properities, so to know of what is reffered to
Basic usage of measurement testing devices, dmm and supply, what you can do what you cant even think to do
Basic soldering skill, that you can desolder, test, solder again any component

You can try to follow Sorins chanals for begginers, just watch from beggining to end (it is open recently), and try to practice on scrap board, test board and understand principes. Sorin is a good teacher but it is his wiered, not-so-sistematic way to present... but it is from my perspective, maybe is ok to you.

Xboxes put aside awhile and practice repair on one or two layer board first, to learn principes and experiance.
