Hmm then look into the Hakko Dash series they're unregulated but I've been using them since I ditched my first Ratshack iron.

I remember how slender and nice it felt next to that beefy crap iron from Ratshack.

Around 30 bucks USD. Comes with a conical tip.

They have distributors all over not just in the US.

Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

I very much agree with Krankshaft on the Hakko equipment. After having used [over the years] just about every soldering tool made for electronics, including the very same type Phaihn showed in his photos, I was amazed at how much BETTER the Hakko tools are. The very nice Hakko FX-951 that Krankshaft included photos of may seem a little expensive, but it really turns out to be a bargain once you use it a lot, since it is so much better than just about anything else one could use for soldering on PC boards and motherboards. And of course, if one does considerable parts removal, the Hakko desoldering tools are the most practical way to go, since initial higher cost of the tool is just a small fraction of the the total board repair adventure. There is a large price to be paid over the longer haul when cheap tools force a tech to put out significantly poorer quality, and of course cheap tools are great at adding to the frustration level of a repair job.
