    TV Color Generator Problem

I recently came into posession of a B&K 1245 Color Generator.

So I hook the RF output to a 300 to 75 ohm matching transformer. Yes it's that old what is twinlead again ?

Everything looked good the color bars and the dot pattern but the vertical lines have a jittering problem.

You can really see it in the crosshatch pattern.

So I check the alignment of the countdown circuits with my scope everythings spot on.

So on a whim I try it on an older GE TV made around 1981 or so and the vertical lines are now solid.

Is there some variable in more modern TVs that is causing the vertical line jitter?

This is EXACTLY what macrovision works off this.

Copyholders asked the TV makers to desensitive the lock in speed on TVs while leaving the sensitivity in VCRs high so it keep chasing the timings causing pic to go wavy/fading in and out on playback.

    Cheers, Wizard

So it's a lock problem then V sync would be responsible for this right?

I say that because the horizontal lines are straight.

How do modern generators overcome this?

Are there any types of circuit modifications that could remedy this?

        by being more precise?

btw. no, not v-sync, but h-sync...
you have lines being shifted to left and right at certain places, which means h-sync is off...
        ie it's left-right distortion, not top-bottom...

top-bottom(vertical sync) distortion would make some horizontal lines thicker, and squares would become rectangle etc.

I thought I messed up on which sync signal it was.

So the beam is being pulled down at the proper rate however the horizontal sync is causing the misalignment.

I have a newer model I'll be picking up sometime next week this one is IC driven a BK 1248 we'll see how it goes.

          Like this:

About 9 patterns and a video and sync output my fingers are crossed on this one.

I have the 1248 and it doesn't produce that distortion. And you can connect without the balun.

Whew that's a relief thanks for the update on the 1248.

The 1245 is all discrete components while the 1248 has more patterns and IMO looks alot nicer.

I got the 1245 for free so I thought why not.

I have a G810 monitor i've had for years but it has developed a problem with vertical collapse. Is there anybody here who has worked on these and can help me find where the circuit even is for the vertical deflection?

Problem with LG Plasma 60PM6700 - Random power downs
                by theone111
I have an LG Plasma TV 60PM6700 for the past ~12 years.

In the last ~3-4 months I have been having some issues.
                1. Problem: It started with random picture disappearing (sound still worked).
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait a few seconds before turning it on again.
                2. Problem: Then it got worse and the TV started to shut down and when turning on the no picture just sound.
Frequency: Happened about once a week.
Solution: Had to turn off TV wait about 10-20 seconds and turn it on again to solve.
                3. Problem: TV shuts down

Sharp TFT-LCD Model No. LQ050Q5DR01 gray screen
                by Mad_Science
I have a older eddy current tester made by Olympus that uses interchangeable TFT-LCD screens. I have two devices that each take the same removable screens. One is an Olympus NORTEC 200D+ and the other is an Olympus SONIC 1200M EMI. I have searched the internet high and low for service manuals for these units with no luck. Both these units were used extensively by the US military for NDT on airplanes. The detachable screen plugs into the base unit via a weird non standard VGA connector. Buttons on the removable display are used to power the units on. When the power button is pressed the unit makes...

Vertical Lines on Half of LCD Display
                by rfxcasey
I have an Siemens HMI with vertical lines on half of the screen. These lines aren't scrambled garbage but rather very regular in pattern and color. I have replaced the LCD with a new one and still the problem persists. I'm wondering if this isn't indicative of a bad video process chip or video memory? Any help would be appreciated. The cable appears to be OK but one pin on the header is unpopulated, though there isn't any loose wire to suggest one broke off or popped out of the connector. In the picture below where the connector is busted out of the side, I did that with my small screw driver...
