Re: ShopJimmy LED Strip Rework Station - Single LED Replacement Tool
Yes can confirm, setting the voltage to 120V with my variac and the heater still gets to temperature.
Here is a 24 volt version of it
It not quite the same size but it should work
I ordered 10 of them

They sure have lots of 230V version, 120V seems to be hard to come by on Ali.Leave a comment:

Re: ShopJimmy LED Strip Rework Station - Single LED Replacement Tool
I have a thermocouple jammed inside to get an idea of the temperature.
I intent do connect it to a PID and a relay for slightly better control but it doesn't burn FR4 unless it's left on too long.Leave a comment:

Re: ShopJimmy LED Strip Rework Station - Single LED Replacement Tool
I do use a bench power supply for my testing so perhaps they are failing then rather than with the TV powering then. I haven't had any failures when testing for 24 hoursLeave a comment:

Re: ShopJimmy LED Strip Rework Station - Single LED Replacement Tool
So, for example in a 10 led strips TV, only 3 leds are burned out. You just replace the 3 leds, leave the TV on at 100% backlight for 24 hours and if there are more to die, they die, you replace them and leave the TV on for another 24 hours? If it still works, you assemble the TV and call it a day?Leave a comment:

Re: ShopJimmy LED Strip Rework Station - Single LED Replacement Tool
Is it guaranteed that with this method (replacing just the dead ones and leaving the TV on at 100% backlight for 24 hours) the about to die old ones will die for sure? I mean what if you stress them and they die a week down the line? You'll have to repeat the proccess.
If I stress them and they die in a week I replace them, but I haven't had to yet.Leave a comment:

Not really, after repairing the failed ones I run the backlights at 100% for 24 hours. Any further failures are replaced before they are turned down.Leave a comment:

Re: ShopJimmy LED Strip Rework Station - Single LED Replacement Tool
Just the damaged ones only? Strange that you haven't got returns because the old ones tend to die shortly after. I have had returns by replacing just the damaged ones so I stopped using this repair method.Leave a comment:

Just the damaged ones usually.
The LED strip is resting on a hotplate, the solder is liquid.Leave a comment:

Apologies, I shortened all the tracking info from the link and trimmed too much.

I remove the LED with the heater but depending on how much solder is left I then remove all the leaded solder and replace with lead free.
When attaching a new LED it's staying well within reflow temperature parameters.
Yes I turn down the back light.Last edited by WhiteWolfHellas; 06-13-2019, 04:28 AM.Leave a comment:

Re: ShopJimmy LED Strip Rework Station - Single LED Replacement Tool
I use one of these https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1pc-...2974173898.htm which is the ShopJimmy hotplate but without the expense.
It removes LEDs from FR4 and aluminium with ease leaving no marks at all.
No, no comebacks.
Glad to hear no comebacks even after greatly heating up the new led. Do you lower the backlight after the repair in order for the leds to last longer?Leave a comment:

by edugimenoHi There!
I'm trying to help my friend who owns a restaurant be just bought.
He has a very long LED strip running along all the walls and columns. The strip is attached facing down 2in above the floor, using a wall panel that ends in a metal rail that finishes the panel underneath
It's stuck using, I guess, the 2 sided tape that comes with the strip
The issue is that like 1/2 of the full length, including 1/2 one wall, another entire wall, and one column, flickers after 4 or 5 minutes ON. Particularly it flashes staying OFF most of the time and flashing ON for 1 tenth... -

by petemanukHi,
I been playing with a recently acquired IR6500 rework station and watching lots of YouTube tutorials to see how to use it with not much success. I’ve only recently joined badcaps but going through the forums there is a lot of knowledge here, so though it best is if I ask my question here.
1. Firstly is the IR6500 any good for BGA rework or should I be spending my money on a better one.
2. The instruction manual is pretty useless on explaining how to set the PID loops (no information at all!!) both top and bottom heater for th Kp, Ki and Kd...10-14-2022, 12:31 AM - Loading...
