Re: Conductive Ink Pen - how to apply without bridging when there are multiple traces

The other thing is I don't know for certain if certain traces are broken or not as I know near the ram, those traces are broken as the copper is missing in two points. But how would I go about testing the other traces if basically there is a scratch on it from trying to use a solder helping hands and the alligator clip caused lines going through a few traces. Do the traces actually only connect one way or is it connected in a loop?

There could be a low impedance path through the chips that may look like it's still connected, and that could make it hard to tell if something really is open or not. There usually isn't any loops as it'd make it hard to model parasitics but you never know.

I was asking because I notice some traces only terminate into a small o but I don't know what those o's actually connect to since it's not like one can find another point to use a DMM on to see if it's passing current or not. I noticed on some traces, there are even dots of solder(?), are those also repairs of traces at manufacturing?

dots of solder are sometimes test-points that a machine at the factory can connect to using needle-probes.

I noticed one trace seems to have a slight dent into it for about 1 cm where it basically seems deeper than the rest of the trace but the trace is not scratched, are those usually okay or do I need to fix that one as well? I just want to fix the traces before I do the rest of the recapping since I've removed 18 caps and only soldered in 3 at the moment, would be a waste of time if I can't get the traces fixed first. As for the strand of wire, I guess if the strand was insulated, it's easier than if it was bare metal without insulation as the later would mean it's easier to create a short, probably what the glue you mentioned earlier is to prevent.

Just thought about this some more and I basically see how the repair works but how does one protect one strand from accidentally touching the strand next to it assuming I am repairing more than one trace since I would prefer insulated single stranded wire but I'm thinking what if I ended up with uninsulated stranded wire...

WTF - the wires follow the traces, and once it is done you de-flux it and put a layer of epoxy over it.
                just fix the damn thing.

Easy when you guys are experts and do it regularly, it's going to take me forever to fix it since I still need to find the wires first. Forgot to ask but does one need to use one of those narrow pointy soldering tips? Rosin Flux was what killed the tip which caused a portion of the tip to break off and ofcourse taking out the trace near the capacitor in the ram area.

I will just preface all this by saying that I have a fairly technical background but have never attempted SMD electronics diagnostics and repair before, I really like the idea and want to learn.

I have a MacBook Pro late 2016 that died maybe four years ago. Over the course of 30 seconds, it got slower and stuttered, until it froze for a second and died. No click from the trackpad anymore, nothing. I started getting interested in electronics repair and decided to give it a shot, so I opened it, removed the battery (one cell was puffy), took out the motherboard and experimented with...

The Real Dangers of conductive glue.
                    by mitsu2k
I know many folks on this forum warn against conductive glue and suggest removing it immediately upon site. I'm here to vouch and say these people know what they are talking about. To be more accurate, the glue isn't intended to be and doesn't actually start out conductive. It gets conductive as it is heated by components that get hot. The glue starts out to be a light tan color but as it is exposed to heat, it gets darker and darker until it is a dark brown. I have found that it becomes conductive at the point that it reaches a light brown color on darker.

                    Here is an experience I...

Is it possible bridging tiny broken trace
                    by chth96
When I assembled dreamcast I mistakenly fastened long bolt and It resulted in
                    cutting tiny trace.
This tiny trace(Total width of white coating is 5.5mm) is between R337,R343 and IC101 and it is covered with white coating in the below screenshot.

Firstly I tried to bridging tiny broken trace with my own eyes...But it is totally impossible..So a week ago, I ordered G1200 Digital Microscope and I magnified this tiny broken trace with it.

But It seems that It is really very tiny trace So I plan to order 0.1mm coper wire from aliexpress in order to bridging...

Need help identify problem component or next steps to test.

The motherboard isn't working there is no power indicator light and overall no power on.
However, I have identified multiple 19v, 14, 11v, 10v and 5v points across the board but nothing that goes below 5v.

No I have reached a part of the board where I think there is a problem.
Multiple components (buck converters?) that are ramping up voltage. I have marked all the details in the picture, the problem is at the pink components - they are ramping up over of a few minutes from 0v to 4v and beyond....

                    by Almighty1
I was wondering if anyone here has any experience using conductive ink pens as it seems the motherboard I am recapping has some broken traces, these are fine hair thin traces as there as 11 traces within 5mm and 2-3 are broken. The problem is the traces are next to each other and I am trying to avoid bridging the traces together but what's the best method to do it as I've tried:

                    1) using 3M Scotch Magic tape outlining the trace but the ink still seems to bleed to the other trace.

                    2) just apply to the entire area and let it dry but after it dries, using the tip of...
