Concerns before attempting a Reflow of Laptop's GPU

I saw some posts at one point talking about doing a reflow but I couldn't find them again so I thought that I would post this here.

I plan on reflowing the GPU of this old HP DV2500 laptop but I want to go over what I have and the steps I have to take to guarantee it will come out fine.

I have a Yihua 8786D 2in1 Rework station, flux (just some paste that I got from an old Radioshack kit), a couple rolls of Kapton tape and a $15 Thermometer +probe (a TM902C from EMR shielding Solutions if its important).
    • The paper that came with the thermometer states that the probe is rated for over 300C (K type,Tp-01), I've already tested it in ice water and it appears to be accurate.
    • The tape is rated for 500F or 260C (I'll come back later and edit it when I find the brand name again)
    I'm concerned if:
    • The thermometer that I have will be accurate enough for this
    • The board may warp from only heating one side
    • The flux I have may cause some unforeseen problems with the reflow.
    • The Airgun will for some reason not be powerful enough (if it turns out that I need more heat than it's able to output)
    I'm unsure about:
    • How long I have to let it heat up for
    • What temperature I have to set/let it heat up to
Is there anything I should consider switching out or is there some guide that I missed that would help me figure out some what I'm unsure about?

If it works I plan on adding some stuff to the GPU so it won't heat up as much and break its solder balls.

Google Pixel 5 - Proximity Sensor Issues - Reflow/Replacement procedure tipps wanted
    by groomit
    Hi,
I just replaced the battery on a Google Pixel 5.
After that the proximity sensor isn't functioning properly any more. It is constantly activated. So when playing a voice message on Whatsapp, the Screen instantly turns off.
Checking with a sensor app I can verify weird behavior of the sensor. It is triggered when nothing is near and sometimes works correctly when squeezing the phone next to the sensor hole.
The rubber seal is on again (as mentioned in various suggestions in other forums).

This smells like a cold or broken solder joint. So I'd like to reflow...

    Reflow equipment

    Hello all,

I am experimenting a bit with reflowing larger components - ideally I'd like to reflow a PS4 APU or a GPU for example.

I know it's impossible to reflow such large components with just hot air so I bought a pre-heating plate, T-8280 classic Chinese machine, which seems to be working fine besides it's a little slow, which shouldn't be a big deal.

Now, my hot air station is a Aoyue 852A++ and I feel it's a bit weak when used with larger nozzle. I tried reflowing a laptop chipset using one of those large, rectangular, nozzles and I failed miserably,...

    For BGA reflow experts...

I have attempted all sumed very few reflow processes, and i need to make it better, how do you make yours to have sureness that the balls are really fully reflowed? My temptation was always to do "the slight move" touching very gently an angle, but due to some cases, but maybe 100%, where the previously half working device became totally shut off, i finally understood that the damn "move" makes the balls shorted, so what do you suggest?
    Thanks!.. Muchas gracias.....

SEF 551.10 - Error starting the reflow oven.
    by bpjl
    Hello,

When starting the SEF 551.10 reflow oven, the following problem occurs:

It seems to me that this is related to corrupted software. Does anyone have files that can fix this device? Or maybe someone uses such an oven and is able to make a sector copy of the memory card located in the computer controlling this oven?

PS.: Of course, appropriate emails for help have been sent to the manufacturer and distributor in my country. No response yet, but I don't expect much. It's a fairly old device and from what I know, it's no longer...

Will I have a bricked logic board after reflow of the GPU v-core U8900 chip on my Mid-2012 15" Retina Macbook pro?
    by korben_dallas
Hi everyone! I'm trying to fix my black screen / failed U8900 GPU v-core on my Mid-2012 Macbook Pro 15" Retinaby doing a rework/reflow of the chip (once I determine that's the real issue; but it likely is).

I've been disabling the GPU in NVRAM for a few years... but it's just time for a better solution.

I'm new to soldering but the only feasible way to fix this issue is to do something myself.

    MY QUESTION:
I've been seeing some people (on this forum mostly) run into issues with the logic board needing a serial number or it being deactivated (?)...
